“The Lodge you've been looking for”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

We recently returned from a 10 day trip to Alaska and spent 3 days in the Glennallen/Matanuska area. We had researched Evergreen Lodge and stayed elsewhere. But, being the travel agent I have always been, we drove in to check out Evergreen and were absolutely delighted. The road in, which was described as gravel, is not in fact, it is paved. That was big in our mind at the time. It is bumpy but beautiful. The lodge is a treat, an Alaskan lodge with Lake Louise at the doorstep, mountains in the background and a "real" lodge to sit in, enjoy their generous "continental" breakfast, which is more than ample, sit on their lovely deck soaking in the sights and sounds and tranquility. The rooms are lovely, sparkling clean and very much in the Alaskan style of cozy comfort. It is a real bargain guaranteed to be a place to return to. We highly recommend it. Our family stayed at the Evergreen Lodge for nine days and greatly enjoyed our time here. The lodge is located on the southwest side of Lake Louise and just a little over a three hour drive from Anchorage on the blacktopped Glenn Highway and the Lake Louise Road exit (between mile post 158 & 159) roads.

The Evergreen lodge is located in a valley surrounded by these four mountain ranges; Chugach, Wrangell, Talkeetna and Alaskan. While relaxing on the deck that overlooks the lake and primarily looks toward the east, we could see the Wrangell, Talkeetna and Alaskan ranges on most clear weather days. This lodge is a B&B, that offers eggs, cereal, oatmeal, snacks, juice, coffee and tea and perhaps a few other minor items. Otherwise, a full service restaurant is located about a mile away at the Lake Louise Lodge and you may also use the gas BBQ grills located on the deck if you want to grill some food. Rooms have small refrigerators, so you can bring perishable food items with you.

The Evergreen Lodge has four lodge rooms and several cabins. We stayed in lodge room #1, which is a double queen room with shower, bathtub, toilet, satellite HDTV, refrigerator and two large closets. The lodge has free Wi-Fi Internet access. Our Verizon and AT&T cell phones had reception here, however our Sprint service did not. Our room was clean, comfortable and quite. We also had the opportunity to view the three other lodge rooms; two of which are double queen bed rooms and one room with a single king bed. The cabins do not have running water, but a bathroom and showers are located in the lodge for your use. The lodging rates at the Evergreen Lodge are very reasonable in the $1xx. per night range for lodge rooms, especially for Alaska, since we found that most places contacted cost approximately 50-70% more per night, so the value is exceptional.

This area is very pilot friendly and offers landing opportunities for land and sea. The 3000' x 60' gravel runway Z55 (PZ55) has plenty of tie-downs and the runway is in excellent condition. The runway is located only about two miles from the lodge and Evergreen provides free transportation to and from. The lake identifier for seaplanes is 13S (Lake Louise) with beach and some dock parking - call ahead to find out best location.

If you are interested in setting up activities like fishing, hunting, fly-outs or various flight training it is best to ask about these items when setting up your reservations, so the lodge can help coordinate these local business activities for you.

We sincerely enjoyed our stay here. The people are friendly, the lodge was very relaxing and we will certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Room #4 (second floor) has a large picture window facing the lake. The room with the king bed (secon...
