We stayed one night at the Denali Dome Home, on our way to a lodge in the backcountry of Denali. Our hosts were busy with a full house but were courteous and helpful, eager to impart useful information. We were accommodated with a fresh-cooked breakfast even though we returned a little late from our morning run. We rented a car from our hosts also, so we got a ride to and from the rail station.

Our first-floor room, with ensuite bathroom, was comfortable and pleasant. The bed was particularly comfortable. The water in the bathroom is somewhat soft, so it can take a while to rinse off soap. Not a big deal.

Outside of our room, we enjoyed the unique design of the home, with its dome shape and unusual windows. We arrived after a long train trip, so we were not up for much adventure that evening and appreciated the DVD library.

The grounds around the Dome Home are pleasant but a lot of mosquitoes were out when we were there, so we didn't explore much.

This was a unique place to stay, about a half hour's drive from the Denali RR station.

Thank you for the kind words. We often are the first or last stop for guests who are actually staying inside Denali National Park when they come early or stay later than their stays at Camp Denali or North Face. To be able to stay inside the Park is a special treat. I consider them to be the "big boys" in Denali accommodations, and many guests book with them a year in advance. They are listed in a book for 1000 places to stay in the world. Their price this year is $555 per person per night and they provide transportation inside the Park, a wonderful stay in DNP and all meals. They provide lots of extras, too.

Our cost per night breaks down to $92.50 per person per night, and we're 11 miles from Denali National Park in Healy. We live here year-round. We provide full, cooked to order breakfasts, and rental cars for our guests and others who want a rental car in Denali. This is our 26th year as bed and breakfast hosts. Last week we had an inquiry of summer 2016...We're not quite "big boys" yet, but we are striving to become a grand option in the Denali area.

The dome shaped B & B was a real pleasure to visit for 3 nights. The hosts, Terry and Ann, were very helpful in planning tours, restaurants and sightseeing in the Denali area. They made you feel at home. The B & B was bright, well furnished with an interesting room layout. The breakfast was wonderful including a hot cooked dish. Healy is about 12 miles north of the Park Entrance and away from the congestion of Denali itself.

Room Tip: Read their website and book early. Only 7 rooms.

My husband and I spend 3 nights in this B&B. we loved it a lot.
The room was lovely, every day when they cleaned the room and made up the bed, they put a book or two books about the bears, the moose, the dogs in the area and with each book they put a teddy bear, or moose or dog.... And it was SO nice.
Terry was there to help with everything we needed, he cooked great breakfast for us and was very attentive.
Terry seemed to be very energetic. He was every where and doing everything. Always busy with things related to the B&B.

We celebrated both our anniversary as wel as my husband's birthday while being in this lovely B&B. upon leaving, a terry gave us a lovely present: ULUS, which is a special round knife used in Alaska which he made. It was very touching.

We highly recommend this B&B.

Our family stayed here for 3 nights in June 2014. We reserved 8 months in advance so book as early as you can! Ann and Terry were always willing to help us with questions about the area and Denali tours, too.

We had no trouble at all finding the home. The whole house is lovely--the sitting area off of the kitchen is open and airy with great scenery all around. It's a great space for playing cards, eating pizza with your family, or visiting with guests who may happen to be from the other side of the globe!

Our room was spacious and we had a Jacuzzi tub which our daughter loved. Breakfast each day was filling and delicious. Terry is such a wealth of information about the area--and he loves to share it. Ann was great when I asked her about putting together a gift basket for our daughter--we set a price for the basket and she went about getting items our daughter would like, including an autographed book from a local author!

We stayed three nights and I think I would have been disappointed if we had stayed fewer nights. This was the rest we needed in the middle of our 20 day AK adventure!

Room Tip: Our room in the "basement" had a queen bed and a twin (as well as a pull out couch that we...

Denali Dome Home

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

We stayed at the Denali Dome Home for two nights in July 2014.

The Good:
Our impression on arrival was that the property was well maintained both inside and out. Access to the room we booked was through a separate entrance located outside of the house--which we were told in advance, and that was fine. You have to go down one flight of stairs below ground level to enter the room. The room was small, and has one window, though there is no view, as it faces the wall of the stairway--but we did ask for that room, knowing that Alaska in summertime has lots of light, and we like our sleep There is no A/C, which is common in Alaska B&Bs, but there was a small fan in our room. With it running and the window open, we were comfortable, even in July. The best part of the room was a wonderful king sized bed with fine linens. It was, without a doubt, one of the best beds we’ve ever had at a B&B, or at a hotel either, for that matter.

The Bad:
An odd thing we quickly noticed about the room we had was the bathroom. It had plenty of square footage, but only had a shower stall and no bathtub. It had three doors, two of which were locked. This struck us as very odd, given that we were told we'd have a private bath when we booked. The first door opened into our bedroom, but there was a second door leading into our bathroom from a common hallway, and a third door leading to our bathroom from what turned out to be another guest’s bedroom. During our stay, someone tried to open the door leading from the hallway into our bathroom at least once, and a persistent guest kept trying to open the third door several different times. Though no one actually was able to get in, it was annoying and left us feeling uneasy.

There is not much good that I can say about the breakfast. I’ve never had such weak coffee. If you read some of the other comments that were posted, you’ll see others expressed the same feeling about the coffee. We don’t have to have what you would call strong coffee (a la Starbucks), but what they served was like warm water with a little coffee flavor. And, unfortunately, we had one of the worst breakfasts we’ve ever had at a B&B in all our travels. My husband ordered eggs over medium. They were served hard fried and greasy, and one of the egg yolks had broken while in the pan. In short, if you’re going to run a bed and breakfast, you’ve got to serve good coffee and a good breakfast.

And the Ugly:
The owners seem more focused on making sure you obey a set of rules that they have than making you feel welcome. And, should you fail to follow one of their rules, you will be scolded like a 10 year old. They have a very, very, firm No Shoes in the House rule, which I guess doesn’t matter if you have plantar fasciitis or other foot related problems. But what really got us, was, on the second morning of our stay, my husband (with shoes off) went into the common area looking for a cup of coffee, and he noticed the coffee pot was located just inside the kitchen. He no more than took one (yes, just one) step into the kitchen and the owner turned towards him and yelled “Stop!” with his hand extended toward my husband. There were other guests in the breakfast area and this made us (and I’m sure some of the other guests) very uncomfortable. The odd thing about this is that we had been told to go into the kitchen the morning before and help ourselves to coffee and some fruit out of the refrigerator, since we had booked an early tour of the Park, and the owners said they would not be up that early. We have never experienced such rude treatment at a B&B, or even at any hotel for that matter.

In Summary:
Book early, and stay somewhere else.
The owners clearly have an edge about them. We felt uncomfortable from the time we arrived, and it only got worse. If they are going to use the word “hospitality” in their advertisements, they seriously need to understand and to practice what the word actually means. Given some of their responses to what others posted in the way of reviews about them (that they didn’t like), the owners will likely make some discrediting comments about us when posting their response. Since I cannot reply to what they say, just remember that this is my honest assessment of our stay there. And, feel free to read my postings of other travel experiences, and you’ll see that I rarely give a negative review.

We stayed one night at this beautiful B&B. Cosy living area, wonderful breakfast, large room and a gigantic comfortable bed. Walking distance to place for dinner.
I can recommend this B&B, but would avoid the room we had, because there were no wall between the toilet/bathroom and the bedroom.

While, due to full bookings, I was unable to obtain rooming for myself and family I was able to lease a vehicle from Ann and Terry. They are most gracious and informative people and I cannot say enough about how helpful the were to me. I would never hesitate to contact them again knowing how terrific they are. They met us at the train depot with a vehicle and then returned us when we were leaving. Also, they provided a lot of useful information about Denali which saved me money. Great trip for us and great people to work with.
