This is a small operation but excellent and personal service as the pilot was also our guide, and the owner of K Bay Air; his son in charge of the technical side and bookings etc. We flew in a small 6-seater plane for an hour to a secluded national park , landed on the beach at low tide, and spent the next few hours just watching wild Alaskan brown bears fishing in the rivermouth, digging for clams, a mother playing with her two cubs - an incredible experience. Can certainly recommend the company. We felt safe and well looked after

“Alaskan Bear Viewing at its Best!”
Reviewed 17 August 2009

The K Bay Air Bear Viewing trip was absolutely incredible! Definitely the highlight of my twelve day visit to Alaska. Michael’s knowledge of the bears, their habitat and Katmai National Park added to the experience immensely. Witnessing the bears at in their natural environment was breath taking an spectacular. Highly recommended and definitely one of the best tours in Alaska! Thanks Michael for an incredible day with the bears!

“The highlight of my 3weeks in Alaska”
Reviewed 13 August 2009

My first experience began with Micheal's efficency in laying down some ground rules. He shared about the need to stand your ground, no backing up, or running away. Than Micheal spoke about listening carefully to his instructions when approaching a bear, such as following single file behind him, speaking and moving slowly , kneeling or sitting together. These instructions worked well for me, as the first encounter with two bears aproximately 50 ft. away, I felt fear. I did not step back or run though. Standing together in the group quietly observing their grazing habits while they moved slowly toward us gave me an opportunity to look right at my fear and let it go. When one of the bears reached about 30 feet in front of us, Micheal stood tall and very present raised one hand slowly and said "OK buddy ,that 's close enough."The bear looked at him and lazily moved to the left and slowly away.
We than walked on to visit with a Sow and her cubs for about an hour sitting on the ground some 70 ft away. I never felt fear again. Instead I literally felt completely relaxed, a grat deal of joy and at one with momma bear and her cubs and any of the rest of the 6-8 more bears we visited with. I am incredibly grateful for this experience and feel it has had a deep infleuence on how to join rather than fear not only brown bears, but other areas of life that may have presented it's fearful side. With deep appreciation to Micheal and the brown bears of Katmai, Pamela Nelson

“It does not come any better!”
Reviewed 12 August 2009

Our bear excursion came at the back end of our great vacation in Alaska and it was definitely the grand finale!
Mike is an experienced guide, who sets the scene right at the start of the trip in his own personal style by showing some of his great pictures from recent trips. At that moment you just cannot believe that you'll be so close to these great animals.
But no worries,Mike delivers in every aspect.Bears come in so close range ,that you"re really in the postion to experience their daily life in the wild.
Catching salmon, digging for clams, playing with cubs, the bears are active right at your feet,as you lay in the gravel ,or stroll along the shoreline. No crowds ,just the group of 5 ,yourself and this great wildlife. It really does not come any better!
As said ,a grand finale to a great vacation !All credits to Mike!Highly recommended!!

“Beary unbelievable!”
Reviewed 9 August 2009

Being a sportsman from Michigan I could not believe that a trip like this was even possible. Michael explained all the details of safety about the aircraft and when on the ground with the bears. A true professional who I recommend very much if you are thinking about such a trip. It was the highlight of our 10 day stay in Alaska and we did a lot of other things but nothing compares to this trip to Katmai and being around these truly amazing animals! It is the most treasured memory of our wonderful trip and Homer is an amazing town along with the people. Thanks again Michael.
