Reviewed 25 July 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Alpenglow, in the Glacier View cabin, for five nights. The cabin is detached from the main house, which also serves as a B+B. Although the furniture and kitchen appliances are a bit outdated, the cabin is clean and quiet and very roomy for just 2 occupants (as it can hold up to 6). The cabin’s most impressive feature comes in its view of the surrounding mountains just across the bay. The cabin faces this inspiring vista with a floor to ceiling window and adjacent windowed door. Although the window and doorway offer stunning views of the mountain range during any time- day or night, it certainly hinders one’s privacy as it also opens onto the property’s driveway and is visible to the main house. Blinds on these 2 areas would help for privacy and to block out sunlight at night. The Alpenglow’s owners, Liz and Rick, are extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. At times they were a little too willing and too forward in their pursuit of being helpful and giving advice. This often affected our feelings of independence and privacy at an otherwise beautiful and quiet location. If you want to stay several miles outside of downtown Homer, are looking for someplace quiet, and are after amazing mountain views this is a place to consider.

As a travel agent who has been to Homer numerous times, I am rather picky about accommodations. On a recent trip, I decided to try a different B & B and chose the Alpenglow. It offered the lowest rates for a respected B&B and had a convenient location. Liz promised us all the raspberries we could eat (in season), and that sold me. When I called her as we approached Homer, she told us we had been upgraded to the chalet (which is normally more expensive). It turned out to be exceptionally nice with a separate living area, fridge and microwave, and washer and dryer. Liz was as good as her word one raspberries, plus the view is fabulous! The only negative was the limited and snowy tv reception, but that was not a big deal for us anyway. There were several of the fattest bunnies in the yard that were always there to keep us company. I would not hesitate to recommend the Alpenglow to anyone who wants to stay in Homer for a while. It worked out great for us, and we would stay there again.
