We compared rates with newer and better located hotels in the area the Beluga was the worst value. It is a 50's motel that has been remodeled but paper thin walls make it difficult to sleep and with no fans or AC and bedroom windows which don't have screens and open onto the parking lot.. not restful. The staff, especially in the lounge, was great. We walked out on the free breakfast because everything about it was cheap. Much better breakfast just down the street at the Sourdough Bakery...it is a great choice. If you are on vacation try another hotel.

Room was small, but was clean, nice bed and had T.v., microwave and frig. We had stayed here in 2012 and chose to stay here again. No airconditioner, a fan but most motels in Alaska don't have airconditioinding Nothing fancy but all you need to sleep and take a bath.

Room Tip: We chose to stay on top floor, because you park in back and walk into your room.

I don't mean to damn with faint praise. The hotel was quite adequate. The room was snug apparently recently upgraded and clean and without odor. There was a mediocre breakfast offered with mainly day old formerly frozen stuff, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cold cereal, oatmeal and coffee.

Restaurant bar attached offered seafood special and grilled burgers and steaks and fish and chips.

There was a saccharin odor in the central hallwas, some "deodorizer" causing imo more harm than good.

We arrived in Homer with city-wide power outage. The management seemed overwhelmed. The manager gave us our room key at first, but the hallways were totally black. We eventually found our room with the aid of the manager's flashlight (the manager suddenly decided she needed to help us); at some point emergency lighting was utilized in the hallways, but went out. Then, there were candles, but at some point the black hallway could have been the cause of a disastrous fall. What was odd was the attitude of the manager, which was adversarial. The advertised view of the "lake" was nonexistent. The breakfast was inexcusably minimal because "the dining room was being remodeled." The room was overpriced regardless of Homer standard prices and not worth the money. If we had known the hotel was so bad (poor room lighting, no chair in room) we would have searched elsewhere.

Room Tip: Simply don't use this hotel!

We asked for two bedrooms, we got two large, clean bedrooms and a huge super stocked bathroom - we loved it. Although there was no common seating area/room. We had a complimentary breakfast in their restaurant/bar. We sat out on their deck and overlooked Homer during the Solstice. We loved the resident cat and the friendly owners.

Room Tip: I would suggest a room on the top level ( only two levels)
