“Cozy place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2014

We traveled to Homer with a 9-year old and a 1 1/2-year old, we made sure to book the room with a private bathroom, as there were cheaper rooms, however they did share a communal bathroom. The hotel was within walking distance to the beach and several quaint restaurants. The room was neat and clean, with two queen size beds and turn down service everyday. The front desk staff were very knowledgeable about the activities and places to see.

I enjoyed the family friendly atmosphere of this place. I didn't enjoy the crazy crowds and parking-lot style camping on the spit. Yes, the RV parking is still "parking lot style" but there are only 20 spaces, not the hundreds all clustered together on the spit. The combination of a lodge with a reading nook and a playground for the kids made it really excellent to stay here. And the location is perfect! The bakery, town of Homer, and the beach are all out your front door.

We had been in Alaska for almost 2 weeks and had been in several hotels traveling around Alaska. Driftwood Inn was our last place before going home and we were very disappointed. We expected a quaint little historical inn. What we got was quite different. We understood we would be sharing a bath with other guests but wasn't ready to have a shower that was maybe 3' by 3'. That was bad enough, but they had a handle instead of a knob that stuck out 5" from the wall. So when you tried to turn around and bumped it, you either got scalded or froze. The room was very small and no air conditioning. There was hardly any room for luggage. The double bed was up against the wall which made it difficult for two people to get in and out. The view was a muddy road and a dumpster. The view out the other window wasn't any better.
The next morning we asked if we could up grade so we could have our own bath. We were charged an extra $65 to change to their Woodside location that was more of an apartment. We had to call several times trying to get the directions straight. Once we got there, we had to call again to located which one was #8 since it didn't have numbers on all of the units. It was disappointing that they had two twin beds instead of at least a double bed. The single that one of us slept in was short sheeted! It didn't have a top sheet. The plates consisted of a lunch plate and a saucer, but had lots of unmatched glasses. During the night, you could hear someone snoring in one of the other units and then the next morning the smoke alarm started chirping because it needed a batter.
When we went back to the main Inn to check out and collect our fish, I asked the woman helping us if she was Adrienne who I knew was the owner. She said no, she was the book keeper and finally asked if there was a problem. When I told her how disappointed we were, she just said sorry. That was it.
Very disappointed, especially since I had such a nice conversation with Adrienne's mother Marie when making the reservation. We also had a really nice conversation with our Salmon charter owner Wayne Gunnion in Valdez who knew the family and said what a nice family they were. We really expected much better than what we got for the price. Feel like we were bamboozled.

Room Tip: Asks lots of questions, especially what is the dimensions of the room, bathroom and shower!

We stayed in a room with partial view at the main/older building and had family in an RV. It was great to be so close to the beaches. The kids (aged 9-13) combed the beach until past midnight. It's within walking distance to Fat Olives and Two Sisters Bakery, which are wonderful. One morning a woman came upstairs to yell at her son for sleeping too late at around 9am, but other than that, it was very peaceful. During the two days we spent there, I only found both shared/community bathrooms occupied at the same time once. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the room and bathrooms. It made my first trip to Homer memorable and pleasant.

Great location near AJ's and Two Sisters Bakery. About a 10 minute drive to the Spit. Would stay in this part of the Inn again in a heartbeat. The house is roomy and the room was SO comfortable. There is a full kitchen available as well and the view is amazing. We got dinner and ate in one night overlooking the mountains and ocean. There's a washer/dryer as well.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 24 which is in the house next to the main Inn. The beds are amazing and the view...

We luv this place. We saw wear n tear over the 4 yrs we have stayed which is disappointing, as it's likely guest damage. Very sad that some don't treat the guest house as well as they would their own.
Not a fan of liquid soaps in shower, so we tote our own along. Luv the Kuerig coffee, and kitchen. The view is to die for....thumbs up from me.
