Description: We don't claim to be the fanciest place in town but we believe in amazing food, fun specialty drinks, and great entertainment! We value our guests and believe in goodwill and hospitality. AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is located in the heart of Old Town, offers a casual, friendly atmosphere and is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and we like to top it off with a premium martini. We humbly feature mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Local Alaska Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon in a friendly old town atmosphere! This venue also offers fun family entertainment & dinner music. Established in 1941 as the Homer Cafe and Club it was the first bar in Homer and has been serving up delicious fare and drinks for over 70 years

We were only in Homer for 2 nights, and since nearly everything else was closed we ended up eating here both times sitting at the bar. Especially since the first night was so fantastic! I meant to remember the bartender's name (he's from North Carolina). He was fabulous and made us feel very welcome. He knew all about the beers on tap and gave us lots of samples. Have some of the diffused vodka he has homemade behind the bar in big jars. One of them has tomatoes, onions and peppers and looks sooo disgusting. Ask him for a taste -- o...m...g. Amazing! Tastes like Gazpacho. I had the crab legs the first night and fish fry the next. My husband had the prime rib which was so massive and perfectly cooked. Wonderful. Will be back for sure.

We went to AJ's two times...once for dinner and once for the music. The food was only okay for the price and the service was really average that night. The decor is kind of 1970's, but it is in Old Town Homer, so maybe that's why it is like that. The music was fun, though. It wasn't crowded, so it was kind of like we had our own concert that night!.

We were in Homer in August for a friend's wedding and stumbled upon AJ's after walking around one Sunday. We ended up spending hours there drinking and eating at the bar. The bartender Jody was great. She made amazing Bloody Mary's and her food recommendations were spot on. She even gave us and our friends dog a ride home when her shift was over! It was all in all a great experience!

We went to AJ's for the first time last night. We had a great experience all the way around. From the initial friendly greeting, the the bartender (Erica) immediately learning our names, to the excellent meals, our experience was fantastic. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and talking with the mix of visitors and locals. The halibut entree was just right - 6 oz grilled perfectly. The fish and chips was great - not greasy at all and very flavorful. Excellent beer selection and knowledge. We capped off the evening with a great martini featuring their infused vodka (attractively displayed in big jars behind the bar). As others have noted, the prices are quite good by Alaska standards. Very glad we stopped in.
