“Great Place to Stay!”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

We were here two nights and loved it. Staff was wonderful, breakfast excellent, and the location was perfect because it was two blocks off the mayhem of cruise ship crowds. Best towels in Alaska - large and fluffy!

We had three nights at the Silverbow. What we enjoyed about the Silverbow may not be ideal for others who are expecting a fully luxurious experience. It was a nice mix of fine touches and an authentic old-hotel feeling.

We liked the history of the hotel and it's interior design made it easy to imagine the many, many people who had been in the building over the years. Adding to the historical feel was the smaller rooms, stairwell (no elevator), neat foyer area, etc. Breakfast was always available 24 hours in a self serve fashion just beyond the front desk. A single, large table creates a cozy environment that makes for easy conversation with other guests if they happen to be there.

We were in Juneau on some hot days and there was no air conditioning. This was a bit worrisome but was manageable due to the windows, cool evenings and a fan that was already in the room. Again, if you're expecting a modern hotel without some compromises, this might be troubling. If it does cool off in the evening, the roof hot tub is a nice touch.

The staff was friendly but we had mixed experiences with how helpful they were. The woman who checked us in was fantastic. Very eager to help and had a ton of information. Beyond that the staff was friendly but neutral, likely due to their young age and experience.

The location was very convenient to everything in town. About a $30 cab ride each way from the airport to downtown.

Thanks for taking the time to write. We appreciate your comments and it is true, we have had an unusually warm and sunny and as the locals would say "AWESOME" summer. We are glad you enjoyed the roof deck in the evenings and many of our other guest amenities.

What struck me about the Silverbow Inn was that everything seemed to be so thoughtfully designed. In the shower they had jars of cotton wool buds, bath soaps etc. and we were free to have any of the food/drink that were in the common room at any time. This of course made the Silverbow a great value place to stay!! The staff were lovely, our rooms were clean, it's in a good location... I really couldn't have been happier staying here.

The one thing that could have been better was the quality of the wi-fi in the rooms. Even though they have multiple wi-fi accounts that you can connect to, we found that all of them were very slow. But despite this, I highly recommend the Silverbow as a really great place to stay!

WiFi fixed. Thanks for mentioning. As soon as we read this we brought our IT guy in and he did his magic and hooked us back up. We are glad you enjoyed the hotels amenities and we hope to see you again soon. You'll have to visit our new wine bar opening this fall in the hotel lobby.

Wonderful location and central to just about everything.
Rooms are small and we noted that there was only room for one carry on case. 2nd one had to live on floor beside bed. Bathroom was adequate. Breakfast was poor and we ended up going elsewhere as the appeal of bagels and granola wasn't enuf to satisfy our vacation expectations. Staff was young and generally unhelpful and this really detracted from our experience. Do not expect much in the way of tourist information or help from the staff. However we found the other guests to be not only social but a great source of information. Afternoon sweet treats and wine social was very fun, but with so much daylight left we only had a few sips of wine. As for rental parking, there are only 3 spots and its on a first come basis. Oh, Tues - Thur the street cleaner was out really early, way before you'd ever think of getting up! Sushi restaurant on left corner and opposite side if street was very good. Peter and Amy

Thanks for taking the time to write. We appreciate hearing from all of our guests. It is true that the twice a week street cleaners are up early in the summer and when we are having such a warm and wonderful summer and our able to keep our windows open it is definitely loud. But we think its a small price to pay be right in the center of town.

The Silverbow Inn is a great place to stay. The staff is friendly and helpful esp. Kelly and Eric.
The location is great and the beds comfy. The snacks were great and it was nice to have a happy hour provided too.

The noise at night was a little too much but that could not be helped And it was unusually hot so our windows were open. The Inn does not have a elevator but it was fine for us.

The Silverbow was a nice place to stay, very good location. Unfortunately the wifi does not work even although it does work in all the other local small bars and coffee places which was disappointing. Room was quaint but small. Helpful staff and all day tea/coffee and snacks

The good: Awesome bed and bedding. Super comfortable, I’ve stayed in lots of hotels/motels/B&B’s. This bed compares to the beds at Westin’s. The down cover, abundant pillows etc were highest quality. There are snacks available 24/7. The bagels are excellent. There is a community refrigerator to store your own goodies. One hour wine and crackers each night. I only made it there one night, met a very friendly group of 10 people. We quickly ran out of wine, 1 bottle of red, 1 of white and the front desk refused to supply any more. Paid parking is available in the new parking garage across the street and it was only $20 for the entire week.
The bad: Very poor wifi connection, very slow whether using your own computer in your room or the computer in the lobby. The rooms are very small, especially for over $200 per night. OK for one person. They do make good use of the space but it is one of the smallest rooms I’ve ever stayed in. The walls are pretty thin and if you have noisy neighbors or neighbors with loud children you will hear them. I was on the third (top) floor, and it was probably a little quieter there, but there was still street noise – sirens, a few drunks at night especially on July 3-4. Fire Alarm went off one early morning, false alarm, but definitely annoying. No elevator, narrow staircase.
