“Blue Collar, friendly, large portions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2014

Large, blue collar place. Bar in the front, restaurant in the back. Lotsa billiards tables and some dart boards, multiple televisions tuned to ballgames - you can probably guess the typical demographic. It's roomy there, which matters in the winter when we come in with large boots and need room to take our coats off. I haven't drank there, but I've eaten. The halibut burger is pretty good. It's sure big. The fries are overcooked, but that seems to be the way they like 'em all over Juneau. Friendly, attentive bartenders with the good sense to leave groups of friends alone to enjoy one another. Occasional live music on weekends.

“One of my favourite places to eat, other than home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2013

We have been eating at the Sand Bar Grill for many years as we've become older we tend to split a Big Boy fish and chips which they will do for you if you ask, the head is willing but the guts not so much. There are always enough left over's for another meal for both of us. The portions are based on what someone who is doing hard physical labour eats to be full so, huge. The chips have become a bit hit or miss in the last few years but the halibut is always perfect and the onion rings are fantastic. The service is friendly and remembers what you want if you eat there regularly. I never worry about dressing up which is lovely as it's casual and kid friendly. The diners who frequent the Sand Bar run the whole spectrum of the residents of Juneau. The staff is very fast getting the food out and will gladly provide you with more of their wonderful tartar sauce. I recommend the Sand Bar to anyone who likes great fish and chips and isn't worried about how a place looks the ambience is great because everyone is enjoying their food and conversation and if you're local you invariably see someone you know...

“Don't do it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2013 via mobile

10 minutes for a MICROWAVED quesadilla. The whole place smells like burnt canola oil and is located inside of a dive bar. Cheap bar food, it's probably good if you're a little intoxicated. I won't be coming here again

“A nice Bar with delicious Halibut”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2013

I was told about this bar and grill by the hotel staff, it is kind of off the beaten path in Mendenhall Valley. The staff recommended the Halibut and chips were delicious.
The bar is large with 3-4 pool tables a shuffleboard and 2 dart boards. It has a large selections of Alaskan Brewing brew on tap and a full bar.
The bartender was rather busy with a full bar a long question mark design bar. The halibut is to die for here, moist and fresh beer battered. Go here for the food first and the bar second, you will not regret it.

“Down home local bar and grill”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2013

If you want real Alaskan, then this is the spot to stop for lunch. Great halibut and hopefully, Bonnie will be cooking when you get there. The west (far) side of the building has a family diner entrance and there were people in business attire eating there when we went. The other sides go directly into the bar, where you can also order off the grill. Wonderful local people-a good stop for a bit of local color and some regional brews on tap.
