In every small town hit by the cruise ships, there are many, many phony T-shirt and trinket shops. Up the hill from the docks, St. Nicholas, the local Orthodox Church built in 1893 to largely serve the First Americans is a real, authentic, living place. Take a few minutes and check it out.

still a work in progress for renovation, but we were fortunate to be there as a priest was speaking with a group of children of several ages.... a quiet and spiritual moment deeply appreciated.

I am Orthodox (though not Russian) but you don't have to be to appreciate the beauty and history here. The church is small and has a gift shop attached. The icons are beautiful and there is history available for you to read.

We enjoyed out visit to St Nicholas and got some good photos as there were hardly any people around at the time. A different little church showing Russian influence in the style.

It was amazing to see all the wonderful Icons from Russia, I can't wait to see how the Church will look when the Garden is Blooming.
