“Good value for quick trip to Juneau”
Reviewed 14 August 2012

Motel style facility with exterior doors on three levels without elevator. Our family of four stayed in a two bedroom with kitchenette. Nothing great but not bad. Bed is only ok at best. Small bathroom and small kitchen area. Front room is adequate. It was great to be in Juneau for three days and two nights and the Driftwood is very affordable. Nice staff. Great shuttle bus service to and from the airport saved us lots of $. Breakfast cafe in same parking area was good but expensive. Grocery store is half a block away for kitchenette items, sandwiches, breakfast foods, great coffee and more. Keep your expectations realistic and use the Driftwood to explore the interesting elements of Juneau (glacier, whale watching, fishing, strolling downtown).

Room Tip: Second floor by the stairs.

Well located, clean, and very friendly. No fridge or microwave in the room (available in the lobby) and the wifi is so weak it may as well not exist. Shuttles to the airport and ferry are very convenient. Pleasant walk to anything in downtown Juneau.

This motel has a lot going for it, except for the rooms themselves. We choose it because of the price, so we got what we paid for. The motel is very dated & our room (3rd floor) was in pretty poor condition. The bed & bedlinen were tired & not very clean which was a turnoff. The motel has long-term renters & some of them are less than friendly. There was a fight in the room next door & it seemed as if they were coming through the wall - very scarey!
However the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the location of the motel is within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The best restaurant for breakfast is right next door as well.

Room Tip: The walls are paper thin, so top floor (3rd) corner room would be best I think.

The staff at this hotel are excellent, we were picked up at the airport and when our stay was finished taken to the ferry early in the morning, saved us lots of dollars. The rooms were clean and a little dated, however the location was close to shops and attractions. For the money it was good value.

We rented a two bedroom efficiency for our two night stay in Juneau. Since we prefer to spend our time exploring, we do not spend much time in our hotel room, so I hate to spend a lot of money on hotels. The Driftwood is a good budget choice in an excellent location within walking distance of many attractions, grocery stores and restaurants. Our apartment had a nice living area with small TV and small dining table. The kitchenette has a little counter, small oven with 4 cooking burners on top and a small refrigerator. There were a few pots and pans to cook with and limited silverware and plates. If you have a large number of people, you may want to pick up some paper plates and plastic silverware as there was not enough spoons and forks for our family of four. The apartment also had a room with two twin beds and one room with a queen bed. The pillows were quite small and flat. There was a small bathroom with a shower that had good hot water but was a little short if you were tall. Overall, we were very happy with our stay as the hotel was very basic but clean and the promised airport shuttle was excellent.

We rented a 2 bedroom "apartment", which was great for our family of 5. It had a nice sized kitchenette and a cozy living area. I would recommend this motel for families who need more than two beds! The location was perfect if you want to be in the downtown area where the cruise ships dock. It's a short walk to all the shops and excursion kiosks. Also there are city bus stops nearby along with a grocery store, Domino's Pizza, and an ice cream shop. There is also a restaurant onsite which is good, but pricey. The 24 hour shuttle to the airport was great to have and when their shuttle is full, they will arrange a cab for you, at their expense.

First off, this is a budget hotel, so expectations of the room should not be high. However, I thought most rooms would come with a kitchenette, but ours did not. If you want one, you should specify when you make a reservation. Restaurant food in Juneau is very expensive, so it might be a good idea. The room was bare bones but very clean. My only complaint about it was the noise level. We were on the second floor right above the office. Consequently whenever anyone gathered outside to meet, and they did that starting really early in the morning, we could clearly hear everything they said. Loud laughter was particularly obnoxious late and night and in the very early AM. The sound wasn't dampened much between rooms either. Our neighbor turned on his TV at 3:00 and it woke me up, and kept me awake.

The service provided by onsite staff was excellent. They have a shuttle and will take you to and from the airport, ferry, cruiseship termal, or marina of your choice. Just make an apt with the front desk 24 hrs in advance.

The restaurant attached to the hotel is unaffiliated, but has EXCELLENT food. Totally worth the high price. Having dined in more than one place, that can't be said for all of the restaurants. I can't remember the name of the place, but it's breakfast and lunch only.

Room Tip: Get as far from the office as possible. Ask for a kitchette if you really want one.
