My stay at the Driftwood Hotel was ok. The shuttle service from and back to the ferry was punctual (and also free). There is also possibility to do your laundry. The room was clean and spacious with free wifi. The mattress of my bed was not very comfortable and felt rather old (with "pits").

We stayed here for 3 nights this August. We were attracted by their rates. The room was extremely dated. The bathroom showed a lot of differed maintenance. When we asked for shampoo, we we're told they didn't have any for guests, and didn't have shower caps either. While the housekeeping staff seemed nice, the front desk staff made errors on our bill (in their favor!) and only corrected it when I points it out.
Will avoid this place in the future.

You have to understand what you are getting at the Driftwood. It is a basic motel on 3 floors with a restaurant attached and a convenient liquor store. The rooms could do with some maintenance, but are clean and comfortable. There is excellent wifi.

The Driftwood is very well located In Juneau, close to the docks and the shopping/tourist areas.

The best thing about the hotel is the free shuttle service operated by John, who is an interesting character. He took us way off route to show us a full fledged salmon run at close range.

I've stayed at the Driftwood multiple times and found this summer (2014) that it was now under new ownership, with the name change from Driftwood Lodge to Driftwood Hotel. The rooms are pretty much the same, with same furnishings, including bedspreads. Some new TVs perhaps, but it may just have been a room I hadn't stayed in before. New towels, I think. For some reason in the past and now, there is never shampoo in the rooms.
The front desk seems more efficient, scheduling the courtesy van, etc. There has apparently been a great turn over of staff, and I missed seeing the people who used to be there, especially the quiet but nice, Native, van driver. There are two new drivers; the American one is a "character." A helpful person, and if one likes his sense of humor and strong opinions, one will be entertained, otherwise not so much.
The drivers now are in uniform of sorts. I rather hope the "professionalization" of the place doesn't make it like another cookie cutter, chain hotel.

Room Tip: I stayed for the first time on the first floor. Noise wasn't too bad. I think rooms near the m...

We stayed at the Driftwood Hotel last year. The price for the lodging is great, and since we did not spend too much time in our hotel, we were satisfied. We asked for the third floor, since I have read reviews saying that it is too noisy in the 2nd and 1st floors- people walk above you, making it difficult to sleep. Be aware that there is no elevator, though, if you choose a 3rd floor room. There was a kitchenette, which saved us money. We cooked a hot breakfast every morning and made lunches to pack with us. There was a store very close, so it was easy to buy food.

Th location is very good, right next to a nice museum, just a little over a block to the main road and the waterfront, and a few short blocks to the downtown shopping area.

The hotel is older/dated, nothing special, but our room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The hotel could use some soundproofing, but we were on the 3rd floor, so we had no trouble sleeping.

For the price, I believe hat this hotel was a very good value.

Room Tip: Choose the 3rd floor (for a quieter room), unless you cannot navigate the outdoor stairs.

We were in Juneau one night and it was inexpensive and okay for a night. Don't take the room above the boiler ( hot) they offered it but we waited for another room. Would not stay there longer term and would look for another place and pay more for it. Dumpy but the room was clean. We don't know Juneau or what else to suggest.

After a dreadful night in a hotel at Seattle airport, this was a very welcome surprise, The staff on reception were very nice, and the room was lovely and comfortable. The airport transport picked us up and the driver was a real character; he also very kindly dropped us in Juneau the next day to pick up a day trip, which was very kind of him. This hotel is in a very good location as it only took us 20 minutes to stroll to the Mount Roberts Tramway, and there is a shop right next door for supplies and drinks. I didn't use the laundry room but I noticed that they had one; this might be useful for guests on extended trips.
