“The Driftwood Lodge is a no frills hotel that is reasonably priced.”
Reviewed 1 August 2010

We stayed at the Driftwood 2 years in a row for 2 weeks each time. It is a no frills place, located just a couple of blocks from the heart of downtown Juneau. It is not fancy, but is only a short walk from other downtown hotels. It has an excellent breakfastlunch restaurant on the premises, The Sandpiper, which is a top flight restaurant in any city.

Most hotels in Alaska are not plush, and the Driftwood is no exception. But it has spacious rooms, nice kitchenettes, and free van service. It is a great place to stay if you want to get around the Juneau area and see the sites. We did a lot of hiking and nature sightseeing, and some trails are fairly short walks (1/4 to 1/2 mile) from the hotel. The guests are not all tourists; some are on business of one sort or another, but typically trades business and not suit and tie business.

The Driftwood is near some social service agencies, so you sometimes see the people being served by those agencies on the streets, but we never experienced any problems with them, and found them to be good and interesting company.

Clean, roomy, comfortable and well-located. Good WiFi signal in our room. We had free transportation from the airport on arrival and to the Alaska ferry terminal on departure - worth a considerable amount of money. Helpful staff, especially owner Kathy. On-site convenient coin operated laundry. Very good value.

The people were nice and helpful, the location was good, the two bedroom with kitchen was perfect for us. The room itself was adequately clean but we discovered mold in the bath. The walkways and railings were also very rusted and questionable since we were on the third floor. No elevator.

The restaurant next door had great breakfast.

Nope, it's not especially pretty. No chocolates on the pillows, and a tired decorating scheme. I don't know how many television channels they get, and I never keep the shampoo.

BUT, for Juneau in peak summer season, this is your cheapest, right-in-town, safe, clean option. If you are vacationing in Juneau alone - then get something cute like the SilverBow, but if you're just adding a few days on the end of a trip, this is fine.

The staff is helpful, and the free shuttle saves you $20 in cab fare.

good restaurant right next door, used to be called the Fiddlehead. Also right next to the grocery, liquor store and state museum.

This hotel looked good on their web pages, but once inside the room, We had a shock. Very small dark room with a very old bathroom that was in need of an urgent update, and could have been a lot cleaner and brighter. But it was one of the cheaper hotels in Juneau and we only stayed for 3 nights. There is a restaurant next door and a shop across the carpark.
You are only a 5 minute walk away from the town centre and the Alaska State Museum is just round the corner.
The one great thing we liked about the hotel is, they picked us up from the airport once we phoned them and they took us back.
The town of Juneau is a great little place, and if you come here, go on the Tracy Arm Glacier Adventure Bound day cruise. We saw the glacier calving huge chunks, just spell binding and on our way back to port we saw 5 Humpback Whales right by the boat, just awesome.
So if you dont want to spend a lot of money in Juneau and just want a basic hotel, then this will be OK.

We stayed on a second floor room on the far end of the building. The price was right, and they allowed the dog for a reasonable charge. The front desk staff were very friendly and very helpful. Very impressed with the staff. The room was a good size and very clean when we arrived. Our only real complaint was noise: we could hear the plumbing from other rooms, as well as muffled voices from other patrons. On our last night we were woken up extremely early and spent the rest of the night listening to every word a fighting couple had to say. This is, of course, due mostly to the inconsiderate people in the room below us, and only partly because of the noise passing from room to room.
Despite the lack of sleep on the last night, we felt we got what we paid for in the room, and more than we paid for from the friendly front desk staff.
Whether you decide to stay at this hotel or not, you MUST eat at the deli located there (The Sandpiper Cafe) while you're in Juneau. Fantastic place!
We would recommend this motel to someone with a pet, but we'd recommend looking elsewhere if you're not travelling with a pet.

I enjoyed my stay at the Driftwood Lodge. The room was clean and inexpensive. The room smelled really old, but not too much to handle. Their staff was really wonderful. Helpful and friendly. When I missed my flight, they came back to the airport to get me and brought me back for my later flight. That really made my day! I recommend the Driftwood, especially if you're on a budget.
