While coming back to the docks from Mendenhall Glacier our bus driver pointed to a little blue strip mall to the right and said we could find some excellent Russian dumplings there at Pel Meni's (one would hope since that's what the name means). We were immediately interested due to the Russian heritage of parts of Alaska's (not necessarily Juneau). We walked back to the building after being dropped off and walked into an eclectic, simple diner. They only had one item on the menu and they did it well. The Pel Meni was very good, and very reasonably priced at $7. Drinks were equally reasonable at a $1 a piece. It was great to eat at and support a place that is not a tourist trap (ahem, Red Dog Saloon).

The reviews from Yelp on this place made it sound interesting - and it was. The food is pretty average, dumplings (meat or potato) served with curry powder and sour cream, but it was filling and tasty enough. The internal ambiance was very "funky college joint" as opposed to "cruise ship zone" where it is located. I'll bet this place is wildly popular with folks at bar time.

The music was great - they have a massive collection of vinyl and spun old records the whole time we were there. Seemed more like hanging at a friend's basement than being in a restaurant - but if you don't mind "funky/eclectic" it's a fine place.

A real dive with an exceptional product. They do one thing right: Pel Meni's! Of course, they only do one thing! The price has went up 40% in two years ($5 to $7) but still a fair deal. Get two if your hungry!

This place has been in Juneau for many years. Not fancy, not elegant, but the real deal. Kind of fun for a change. Not far from the boat docks.
