Spent the night at the Keex' Kwaan for a work trip. The accommodations were excellent and the service was great. I had to catch a plane in the afternoon and they let me checkout late with no problems. The rooms are very clean and had comfortable beds. Rooms also include a microwave, small fridge and coffee maker. Hotel also had wireless internet and satellite TV, which are a bonus in most smaller towns in AK.

Hotel is located right above the bay and all of the rooms have waterfront views. There is a small picnic area behind the hotel if the weather is good.

If you are going to Kake, this is the place to stay.

We stayed at the lodge August 4-8, 2012 while we were visiting friends in Kake. We wished we had reversed our itinerary and stayed longer in Kake instead of Sitka where we just just stayed 6 nights at a Super 8 located at a noisy intersection. The lodge was just about everything we hoped it would be. We loved the quiet, cozy room with a lovely view of the water. I enjoyed sitting in the armchair each morning drinking coffee and looking out our windows to watch the bald eagles and other birds down at the water and in the pine trees, as well as the occasional water vessels passing by. So peaceful and restful. I was happy that a lodge in such a small village had almost all the amenities you'd find at a hotel chain such as Super 8/Days Inn, etc. (coffee maker, microwave, mini-fridge with a small freezer area, washer/dryer available on the premises for $3.50 a load, but there appeared to be free detergent on the table, free Wi-Fi, a great shower, satellite TV, and an adorable, welcoming dining room area with a free continental breakfast, as well as a dinner menu for purchase). Tinker Williams, the manager was friendly and helpful. She picked us up off the ferry and then took us into town for the Dog Salmon Festival (we arrived on the day of that event), and she even stopped on the bridge over Gunnuk Creek so we could take some photos of the black bears eating salmon there. Oh, by the way, you can get a ride to the store from Tinker during the day so you can buy groceries to prepare/eat in your room if you want (and you will want to as there won't be any other options for getting food after the dinner-ordering time at the lunch ends at 6:30 p.m.) Also, although sometimes there aren't any lodge employees available on the grounds, there is a cell phone to reach Tinker at just about any time.

Although they're really not all that big of a deal, there's only two things that keep me from giving it a 5-Excellent rating: 1) there was no transportation to our departing ferry which arrived around 3:30 a.m., at least no complimentary transportation like during regular business hours. There is a night driver but she would've charged us $30.00 for about a 2 minute ride. Though some friends offered to take us at that wee hour of the morning, we decided to just hoof it to the ferry terminal as it's less than a 10-minute walk from the lodge...I was a little nervous about running into a moose or bear that time of day/night, though. If you have a lot of luggage, this option might not work for you (we just had small items and carry-on roller cases); and 2) We were just a tad disappointed in the breakfast as the lodge's website says "breakfast buffet" when it's really just a continental breakfast of bagels, muffins, oatmeal, cereal and coffee/tea/hot chocolate. However, I understand as everything at the local and only store in town (SOS) is super expensive, as are most stores in Alaska. Overall, I highly recommend staying at Keex' Kwaan Lodge!

Was booked into the lodge, but then found out about the "Superintendents" house which is located below the lodge on the boardwalk to the old cannery. The house has three bedrooms, is full of rustic charm and is also on the National Registry. It is in the process of some needed repair, but you soon forget that after you've spent an evening on the porch watching the sunsets, eagles and marvel in the scenery. Because it's off the beaten path, it's also very quiet and I had several great nights of sound and peaceful sleep. I was there for a week and I would highly recommend this as an alternative if the lodge is booked, which it often is.

It's very unusual to find such nice accommodations in a small Alaskan village. Clean and comfortable, and they even serve a limited menu; the only restaurant in Kake. Beautiful ocean views from the room, and you can probably see bears within a half-mile. One was blocking the runway when we tried to take off. In addition, Kake is a really interesting traditional Tlingit village, with wonderful people and lovely scenery. The lodge is owned by the tribe, so it supports the whole community. Kake doesn't get many tourists, so I think most of the clientele are there for business.

Tinker the owner manager has a top notch place on her hands. She is more than happy to pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel. The lobby is nice and full of AK artwork and other trinkets worth looking through. The rooms are nice, clean, have a refrigerator and microwave. These come in handy if you have to stay a few days b/c there is no place to go out to eat~

Room Tip: ask for ocean view if you can!

We had stayed at Keex Kwaan 2 different times, 2004 as well. After a short scenic flight from Juneau, you land in the unique town of Kake. We were unguided hunting along the Inside Passage. We were treated fantastic and the lodging and food was very very good. The gals who worked the lodge also did the cooking and they always took great care of our group. The hamburgers were large potions and delicious. I appreciated how over and beyond we were treated on both our stays. Super nice people and wonderful community!
