If yours is a group larger than 6 people - Captain Johny's boat is pretty much your only choice in Ketchikan. There were 11 of us - several families with teenage kids, and his boat was a perfect size, spacious and comfortable.
Johny met us at the cruise ship, and we walked for two minutes to his boat, and immediately started out. In around 15 minutes we slowed down to do trawl fishing. Practically all of us are green novices, which did not matter at all. We enjoyed ourselves immensely, both those who caught any fish, and those who didn't. There can only be 6 rods in the water, so we took turns reeling them in.
Johny and deckhand JR are very friendly and personable people, we all shared lots of friendly banter, information about salmon, fishing, and life in general in Ketchikan. All the while - promptly navigating the boat, handling the rods, watching for fish-ons, fixing and re-hoking snapped lines - in other words: deftly taking care of everything so we could enjoy ourselves.
Nice snack/lunch was provided - which included homemade canned salmon (very nice), as well as water and soda.
Whatever fish was caught - we decided to have shipped home to us, smoked. All we needed to do was to fill out some easy paperwork and provide payment info; Captain Johny took it upon himself to take it to the processor after dropping us off.
Overall - highly recommended for all.
