We had read some bad reviews and some good review. We decided to gamble and go with this company, boy did we make a mistake!!! The owner met us at our boat and told us that his boat had broken down but he was pulling in a favor owed to him. What choice did we have as it was too late to get a fishing trip in plus we had chartered the entire boat so we could fish whatever we wanted.. His friend was nice enough but the boat was smaller (had no covered area) than what we had booked and there was nowhere to go to get out of the weather when it rained (which it did!!) After being out for a couple of hours with no bites, I asked that we switch from Halibut fishing to salmon fishing. He told us that he didn't know anything about salmon fishing and didn't bring the gear to do that. It was an EXPENSIVE and miserable trip!! Funny thing, other people that gave him a review also said his boat was broken. My advice, pay attention to reviews!!

Our guide Robert was awesome. We caught more fish than any of the other charter boats around us. He was very knowledgable and knew the waters well. We will definitely hire this company again and request Robert.

If you are looking for an Alaskan adventure this is not the place to go. If you are looking for an all inclusive Alaskan fishing trip this is the place to go. The package we took included 3- 8 hour days of fishing and 1 day of sight seeing. The package included fishing with True Alaskan Charters and staying at the Narrows Inn. All the meals were included in the package at the Narrows. The food and service at the Narrows was excellent, we were treated like royalty. Captain Bruce from True Alaskan Charters was top notch. He put us on fish everyday. Keeper fish included; Coho (silver) salmon, rock fish, yellow eye (red snapper), halibut, rock cod, & pacific cod. We also caught several turbot, skate, dog fish (shark), rat fish (pre-historic shark), pink & chum salmon, under sized king salmon & even a 4 foot octopus.

Alaska Regs: 6 coho, 4 rock fish, 2 of which can be yellow eye, 2 halibut, unlimited cod per person/day

Day 1: 8 coho-10-17 lbs, 3 rock fish 2-3 lbs, 1 yellow eye 15 lbs, 2 halibut 20 lbs. ea., 1-rock cod 10 lbs

Day 2: 12 coho 10-17 lbs, 1 at 28, 3 rock fish 2-3 lbs, 1 yellow eye 15 lbs

Day 3: 2 halibut 20 lb. & 30 Lb., 2 yellow eye 10 & 15 lbs, 1 pacific cod 10 lbs, coco's weren't biting.

All in all we came home with 109 lbs of fish fillets. MMM MMM MMM good eating for a few months.

While fishing for salmon, it's mostly down rigger trolling in 130 feet of water at a depth of 30 - 60 feet, still a good fight on medium weight tackle. Fishing for halibut is in 200-250 feet of water, bottom fishing, jigging, with 20 oz. of weight. Major league work out reeling up the weight alone, having a 20 lb-30 lb halibut on the line too, is a double major league work out, what a fight. Your arm, hand and back muscles are tired and burning, requires a bit of down time. I can only imagine what it would be like with a 100 + lb on the other end. Yellow eye are in 300 + feet of water and fished the same as halibut. The fight isn't as intense but about the same work out due to the depth. A 10 lb yellow eye is about 20 years old, but better eating than halibut or walleye.

I would reccomend True Alaskan Charters and thier packages to anyone.

Fished with True Alaskan on August 19.

Compared with other companies, we would rate this one 4/10 with 10 being the best.

The best in terms of quantity and quality of catch. For instance, we fished on the 19th of August in anticipation of some really nice silver salmon. Instead we got just 3 of these, and a whole bunch of pink salmon, junk fish by Alaskan Standards.

On the 24th we fished with Pro fish n Sea Charters out of Seward, within 4 hours we caught 6 super size Halibut and the crew really knew what they were doing and were the fish were located.

We felt we were not hunting down the fish, but rather the captain knew exactly were the fish were decreasing our time on the water, along with his fuel, and increased our productivity.

If you can, and if you are in the Seward area, I would suggest you try them after your visit with True Alaskan Charters and compare the two.

My husband and son booked a 3 hour Salmon fishing excursion with True Alaskan Charter. There were 2 other people on the boat from another cruise ship. Bruce, the captain, met the boys and other couple on the dock. They fished for 4 hours and caught a TON of fish (their limit). Bruce was so "chill", my 11 year old son loved him...my husband wants to be him! If we are ever blessed enough to return to beautiful Ketchikan the first thing we will do is book more time with this company. OUTSTANDING!!!
