“A Major Highlight from our Alaskan Cruise Vacation Experience...”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Our family of six (all over the age of 18), recently made our very first trip to Alaska via cruise ship. We researched things to do while in Ketchikan ahead of time, & booked a kayak tour with Ketchikan Kayak Co. as our major excursion activity. It turned out to be one of top three experiences we had during our entire Alaskan vacation--and we would HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking with this company! The tour guide & owner, Howard, was extremely knowledgable and friendly. We saw some of the most beautiful & picturesque scenery and wildlife...(including eagles, starfish (as it was low tide), seals and minks). There had been a whale sighting in the same kayaking vicinity earlier that day--however we did not get to see it during our outing. Howard & his other staff live and work locally in Ketchikan year round. They are true locals, with a tremendous passion for what they do. (Unlike some of the other tour companies that hire seasonal workers, whom don't possess as much knowledge about the area.) We were provided with waterproof gear to wear while paddling, and the kayaks were very nice, clean and relatively new. It was such an educational experience...one we are still talking about several weeks later!! The tour company picked us up & returned us to the cruise ship terminal in a passenger van--Their service was prompt and professional. Do not hesitate to book a tour with this company! It will surely be one of the major highlights of your Alaskan vacation experience, too.

“Great Day at Ketchican”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

I felt trapped by the Cruise ship offerings for kayaking excursions and so I started doing research for alternate options. Their website offered images of what you would see on their tour, and we did. It was nice to see a preview of what we could expect and actually have the tour meet the promised expectations. They picked us up at the ship and we rode in a nice van out to the launch site. There were restroom facilities and a gift shop with food, drinks, and t-shirts is nearby.
We got suited up so that we would stay dry. A quick how-to before we loaded up in the kayaks. Then we got to practice our skills in the marina before we headed out. My sister and I shared a Kayak and were slower than the rest of the group, but one of our guides stayed with us, Howard. he chatted about the history of the area and answered all of our questions so we never felt life we were slowing things down. Both guides were great and we got to see seals, eagles, starfish, a crab, and lots of rugged alaskan scenery. I have only kayaked once before in hawaii and this was an easy trip. The water was calmer and there was no danger of tipping. There were six in our party ranging from 19 to 47 and everyone had a good time. None of the others had kayaked before but the Ketchikan Kayak company made it an easy, relaxing trip that offered a moderate physical challenge while enjoying Alaska away from the tourist center. They got us back to the ship on time and we still had a little free time to see the town since we took the early tour. I would recommend it to friends and would go again when i return to Alaska.

“great adventure”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

it was raining and cold and the kids did not want to do it.... we were picked up right at the cruise dock -- had a pleasant ride 30 minute ride to the dock; were outfitted in rain gear and then had a fabulous time - it was beautiful and the guides very friendly and knowledgeable. Loved the amazing bald eagle "encounter" -- learned a lot -- got a little work out -- not to strenuous - fun and active which is what we wanted - the kids ended up loving it. Yeah!

“Kayaking with sensitivity”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

We took a half day kayak tour and were very pleased with the environmental focus and marine focus of the trip. We were told that it would be a gentle kayak trip and it was just a bit too gentle for us. We would have preferred to see more with a little more effort. We did however see some beautiful scenery and learned alot from our guide.

“Excellent!”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Our family had a wonderful kayaking experience with Ketchikan Kayak Co. For several of us, it was our first time kayaking and Howard and his group were very helpful and patient in teaching us. They were knowledgeable guides and we saw quite a bit of wildlife. It was a beautiful area, with excellent guides who made sure we had a good time. I'd highly recommend them to anyone.
