We were on a cruise and booked a day of salmon fishing for the family. Captain Rick was great and taught us how to fish and really knew his stuff. We caught pink and silver salmon from the very start. We all caught our limits. The trip was fabulous!

However, beware of the cost of shipping your fish home to the lower 48 and ask about your costs. We were charged $2.00 per pound to fillet and process our 50 pounds of fish. However, the bill for filleting, processing and shipping our frozen fish to Denver Colorado was $350! Just be sure to factor that into the cost of your day.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I had a great time fishing with you. You have a great family. I hope that you enjoyed the remainder of your Alaska Cruise.

Regarding your fish processing concerns. I am very sorry that the cost to process and ship fish to your home was so costly. The Cedars Lodge handles all of the fish processing in Ketchikan. In my opinion, the Cedars Lodge does an outstanding job at processing fish at a fair price.

I double checked the fish processing rates at the Cedars Lodge. They charge $1.99 / lb for cleaning, vacuum packaging, and flash freezing. This is based on the filleted weight (no charge for guts, bones, etc.). Additionally the Cedars charges $ 10 - $16 / insulated fish box (depending the volume of your fish). The remainder of your bill is a result of FedEx overnight shipping charges. It sounds like the shipping cost were well over half of the total cost.

Fisherman staying in Ketchikan can check fish boxes as baggage.

Thanks again for a great trip.

We have gone to Ketchikan fishing for the past several years and it never disappoints. Had another great fishing trip this year and as always Rick and Bonnie did a great job and made us feel at home. We did a charter with Rick and also rented his boat and fished on our own for several days, all were very successful. We each brought our 13 year olds sons this year and they had a great time. We sent them on a charter with Rick and his son Andy which was the highlight of their trip. Thanks for another great year!!

Our Fly -out Fly Fish tour was by far the highlight of our Alaska Trip. Captain Rick is the best guide we have had in our years of fishing. Explore Alaska Charters and Steve and his family from Sea Wind Aviation is a MUST do in Ketchikan. Awesome Trip! See you again next July!!!

The fishing is incredible!! For the past 7 yrs my friends and I have traveled to Ketchikan to go fishing with Rick and Bonnie Collins, owners of Explore Alaska Charters. Rick has great local knowledge and always puts us on fish. We usually spend 2 or 3 days fishing with Rick and the remainder fishing in one of his rental boats. Each year we bring home 100+ pounds of salmon/halibut. Most years we catch all the fish we want to bring home in the first 3 to 4 days and spend the rest of the trip exploring and fly fishing for trout/salmon.
If you like seafood this your dream place. We catch fresh crab, shrimp, salmon, halibut, cod, etc.. The rental cabins are immaculate and have everything you need to prepare great meals. If you don't want to cook you can always take your rental boat over to Ketchikan for a great meal at Annabelle's, a local restaurant with great seafood.
From watching a bald eagle snatch a salmon out of a seal's mouth, to having a pod of killer whales swim twenty yards from the boat, this Alaska experience has everything you could want. But the best part is the Collins family! They are incredible people who work very hard to make your vacation a terrific experience.
My only reservation in writing this review is that if too many people come, I may have a hard time booking my spot.
