This is a great location and the design is just what you'd hope for from an early 1900's hotel--high ceilinged lobby, dark wood wainscotting, narrow stairs and hallway. Makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. There's even a message board by the stairs where notes for the guests are clipped.

The rooms are nicely updated. Shower AND tub, hairdryer, cable (satellite?) tv, and a decent sized fridge in the room. There's also a shared microwave in the upstairs hall. The furniture is all appropriate to the period, but functional for a traveler.

I had a corner room and loved every minute of watching the activity in the harbor and on the street. Be sure to bring binoculars. Watching the cruise ships pull in every morning and out in the evening was strangely fascinating to me. I was lucky enough to be there on the 4th of July and sat in my window watching the parade go by. The street noise didn't bother me at all.

The lobby desk is not always attended, but the hosts are always reachable by phone. Everyone there was friendly and helpful--offered good suggestions about anything I needed to know. When I returned to the airport, they arranged for the watertaxi instead of the shuttle, and that was one of the highlights of the trip.

There is nothing better than the hot tub suite right on creek street, especially at the slower times of year.

My husband and I stayed at the New York Hotel in July. First of all, it is a beautiful and charming hotel in a historic building. It had the feel of a bed and breakfast, rather than a hotel. There is a variety of nice soaps and toiletries available, always an appreciated perk. Second, the staff was very helpful. The day we checked out, we had a full day planned and were going to take the Prince of Wales ferry in the evening. We were allowed to keep our bags in a little room/closet at the NY Hotel, rather than dragging them around with us all day. They also offered to give us a ride to the ferry dock when we were ready to go. I would definitely choose the NY Hotel over the Super 8 or other hotel chains that were in Ketchikan.

Room Tip: Die Zimmer zur Straße hin sind etwas lauter, haben aber einen phantastischen Blick auf den Hafen.
