This is actually two galleries in one, both excellent. One side (Arctic Spirit) focuses on Alaskan Native American crafts and the other side (Scanlon Gallery) focuses on American crafts, mainly Alaskan. There is a lot of wall art including metal sculptures and prints on metal. The crafts are far superior to the usually gift shop, mass produced items. Most of these are unique, one of a kind items. The day I visited a local author was signing and personalizing his book for sale on the Scanlon Gallery side. This gallery is rooted in the community and gives back to the community. It is located a short walk from the cruise ship docks and is a must see for those that appreciate fine art and craft.

This place had some amazing photos and art, and lots of prints for sale. Also some local crafts and decorative objects and some textiles Knowlegeable staff and easy access. While we did not purchase, we were very tempted by the range of items and beauty of the execution. Well worth a a few minutes stop in on your stroll around town.

This is the best place in town to get local art. The cruise ship industry operates a dozen or so jewelry and art galleries where you get exactly the same stuff they sell in Bermuda. Scanlon is open all year and has genuine Alaska artists.

Scanlon Gallery is chock-full of beautiful pieces of art - by primarily Alaskan artists. If you are looking for a true souvenir from Alaska, go to Scanlon. No imported gee-haws here!
