Returned to Petersburg AK on July 25 until August 1st with 7 other family members and enlisted to a week of madfun with Scott and Alex from Tongass Kayak. The weather was simply incredibly beautiful, just ask anyone; blue skies, calm Frederick sound waters and perfect 70's temperatures. The humpback whales at Farragut bay must have agreed for they appeared in mass, breaching non stop, tail and flipper slapping. We spent several hours taking in the spectacle and sonic booms echoing each massive body/water impact. Spent time halibut, salmon and shrimp fishing as well. Trip to Le Conte Glacier turned stunning clear calm waters with only berg chunks parts way which allowed us to get next to the (no too close) falling and creaking ice walls. Clear skies and no wind made the ride a joy on two Helms motor boats. We hunted for petroglyphs and pictographs of native Alaskan symbols next to Le Conte as well. Visited the Salmon(King) and Coho hatcheries during a hiking day to stunning forest of huge Sitka's Spruce. Scott and assistant Alex gave it all to keep the pace and multiple interests within our various ages group.
Flight from Washington to Petersburg and back is tough on Alaska Airlines 737-400 series jets far too crowded for such a long trip.
