Returned to Petersburg AK on July 25 until August 1st with 7 other family members and enlisted to a week of madfun with Scott and Alex from Tongass Kayak. The weather was simply incredibly beautiful, just ask anyone; blue skies, calm Frederick sound waters and perfect 70's temperatures. The humpback whales at Farragut bay must have agreed for they appeared in mass, breaching non stop, tail and flipper slapping. We spent several hours taking in the spectacle and sonic booms echoing each massive body/water impact. Spent time halibut, salmon and shrimp fishing as well. Trip to Le Conte Glacier turned stunning clear calm waters with only berg chunks parts way which allowed us to get next to the (no too close) falling and creaking ice walls. Clear skies and no wind made the ride a joy on two Helms motor boats. We hunted for petroglyphs and pictographs of native Alaskan symbols next to Le Conte as well. Visited the Salmon(King) and Coho hatcheries during a hiking day to stunning forest of huge Sitka's Spruce. Scott and assistant Alex gave it all to keep the pace and multiple interests within our various ages group.

Flight from Washington to Petersburg and back is tough on Alaska Airlines 737-400 series jets far too crowded for such a long trip.

We spent a week in Petersburg in June 2013. We did both the Petersburg Creek paddle and the LeConte Glacier paddle. What an adventure! The groups were small, 6 people to LeConte and 4 up Petersburg Creek, which allowed Scott to give all of us individual attention. The paddles were doable for all levels of paddlers, and Scott made everyone feel expert! We saw seal mamas and pups, sea lions, and whales. Paddling around the iceburgs was truly amazing!

We greatly enjoyed our time kayaking up the Petersburg Creek and Le Conte glacier, both experiences were highly gratifying and not too challenging for two 40 someyearolds. The scenery, whoa! perfect blue sky and Bald eagles sitting of turquoise icebergs, seals. whales and great friendly guides, it's like a trip with long time friends. Scott is a personable, knowledgeable and responsible owner who cares about his customers and does what is needed to assure safety and complete enjoyment of the kayaking experience.

Our kayak trip to La Conte Glacier was cancelled after I called the guide the night before to confirm our trip. He then told us he was not able to go due to illness. We were really disappointed as it was too late to arrange another tour. We totally understand that people get sick, but this was the only day we had in Petersburg and we will likely never get back there. A company who advertises on the web should have a backup plan (ie: another guide).

We did a guided, four-hour paddle with Scott owner of Tongass Kayaks. We crossed the Wrangell Narrows to the Petersburg Creek Wilderness area. The paddle was easy, traveling with the incoming tide up to Petersburg creek. We saw some bears and had a bit of rain. We road the tide when it changed and paddled back to Petersburg. Scott was a great guide/owner, kayaks were well maintained; gear we used was good. Over all a very good paddle.
