“Best palce to stay in Soldotna...”
Reviewed 23 July 2013

We are regular stayers at this place. Marve and Janet go out of their way to make your stay special. We have become friends with others that stay here and look forward to our trip there every year. If you like to fish, this place has river front property with easy access...assuming you can go up and down 60 stairs. The units are simply perfect for our type of "luxury" trip. The units up stairs are the best, but if you are alone or no more than 2 people, the room downstairs is quite adequate. A special place for us every year!

Room Tip: Get the Sourdough or Silver Salmon suites.

Stayed at the Sourdough unit for three nights and was one of the best places that we stayed on our two week vacation. The unit was perfect for the two of us and Janet and Marv were great folks and their hospitality just added to our great time spent there. This place is perfectly located for all of your adventures on the Kenai Peninsula. Having traveled all over the state from Denali to Seward and Homer, without a doubt on our next trip to Alaska we plan on spending all of our time at this location.

We stayed here for 2 nights, and immediately regretted why we didn't chose to stay longer!
Janet you are simpily the best!

Soldotna is actually an ideal location if you are planning to stay in the Kenai peninsula.
A couple hours driving from here can get you to the major cities/towns close by; Anchorage, Seward, and Homer. This was our first trip to Alaska so we didn't know any better!

They are located close to town so if you don't want to cook you can go right to town for all your needs.
And they are right on the Kenai River as well, so you can fish from their bank!
What's a plus is that you don't have to worry about the gear if you just want to try fishing like me. They have everything, even boots, except for bait which you can easily get in town.
Unfortunately, fishing from the bank was not so easy for first timers like me, although you can see them swimming in the river! So we ended up taking a fishing trip on a boat with success! Janet let us bring the boots and jackets with us!

They have practically everything you need, but if you do need anything else, they are there for you!!
Thank you Janet, can't wait to see you again!

Hands down this place was one of the highlights of my trip to Alaska (Aug. 15-20). Other reviews have stated that this is a "home away from home," and that could not be any closer to the truth. Janet was very nice and welcoming to us, and even gave us a big slab of salmon to throw on the grill. The fish, along with steaks and corn that we bought at the local grocery store, turned out fantastic. When, not if, I go back to Soldatna, I will definitely be staying at Kenai River Retreat. The views from the deck are amazing, especially around sunset at 9:40 p.m. Also, I loved stepping out on the deck at 7 a.m., and seeing that it was 40 degrees while overlooking the Kenai River. I finally felt like I had the true Alaskan experience at this place. The suite had everything I needed: stove, cooking utensils, grill, comfy bed, couch, clean shower and so much more. The only drawback I had from my stay at Kenai River Retreat was that I did not stay loner. There is always next time though.

We stayed here last year and could not wait to get back. Janet & Marve are the best hosts in this area. The place is SUPERB and right on the Kenai river. The view is outstanding and when the fish are running, this is where we want to be. They provide you with ALL your needs to have an Alaskan adventure. They even gave us bear spray to carry along with us on a hike in the woods. GREAT PLACE AND GREAT PEOPLE!!

Room Tip: Try an upsatirs suite. The one downstairs is very nice, but smaller than the other two.

Just spent 6 nights at the Kenai River Retreat (July 15-21, 2012) - our fourth visit to this lovely accommodation. Janet & Marv make the Alaskan experience one to always remember. Unfortunately while we were there the Kenai and Kasilof rivers were first "catch-and-release" and then closed to fishing for the King salmon. But there was plenty of action for red salmon from the shores. My husband also drove twice to Ninilchik for halibut and we made a day-trip to one of our favorites - Homer. This is a great location in Soldotna to enjoy the Kenai Peninsula. A large freezer is available for holding fish until your departure, and there is a washer/dryer for a small fee right between the upstair apartments. We truly felt at home here.

Room Tip: We prefer the Sour Dough Suite for it's location on the joint deck - avoiding the folks using th...

The Kenai River Retreat is a great place to stay. We recently stayed there for 5 nights. The owners, Janet and Marv, really make you feel welcome and comfortable. The location couldn't be any better! You can walk from the deck right down to the Kenai River and fish. If you don't have a rod, the Retreat has some for guests to use. They also have the tools you would need if you wanted to go clamming. Janet can also give you some great advice regarding activities in the area.
