Stayed in Nikko Tianjin for business trip in June 12. Booked the hotel directly on their website. It took about 20 minutes ride from Tianjin South station to the hotel due to traffic. The hotel is connected to Exchange Shopping centre, with a few major banks nearby Citibank, DBS etc. However the shopping center is undergoing a major renovation.
The entrance is located behind the main road, do inform the taxi driver to stop at lobby if you have luggages to unload, else most of the time the taxi will stop by the side road and you have to walk to the hotel. Check-in counter is located at 7th storey, nice ambience. The room is good size with comfy bed, clean and comfortable. Nice big shower head, I enjoy the bath…Did not try the breakfast as I prefer to eat out. Staff at the ground floor is most helpful if you ask them for directions. Turn right after you exit from the ground floor and you will reach the main Nanjing road. Plenty to explore. There is a shopping streets similar to Wangfujin in Beijing located about 5 minutes’ walk behind xxx centre. However do take care when crossing the traffic junctions. If you prefer a quiet location, this hotel will be your choice

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the city

I've stayed at this hotel numerous times for business. The rooms and facilities are fine. The breakfast is so-so. Very Asian, no French toast or pancakes. No coffee in the room, tea only and not black tea (British). Need to bring your own supply which says a lot about a hotel.

Be advised of a scam in China where when you check out (and go have breakfast, as I do) they have a maid check the room (mini-bar) and if they believe you have "dirtied" a towel, you will be made to pay for it. I used the washcloth to wash my face, and there was mascara on the cloth. I spilled coffee on a hand towel. At the front desk both were waved in front of my face, which infuriated me. The manager was not available.

They indicated "it won't come out." I told them to wash it in hot water and bleach and it certainly wood come out it's coffee.

Quote, "Tea comes out, coffee does not."

Price 100 rmb ($15) because I had to get to work. I am forced to stay there every few months, and now I call housekeeping and have them remove all towels from the room and give me a receipt.

The toilet is space age, warmer, double bidet. For those who care about those things.

Room Tip: Even if you request a non-smoking room (they have non-smoking floors). If they are booked, they just...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for feedback. I was disappointed to read your comments, especially as all our guest rooms have two types complimentary coffee. As such, I apologise that your room was not restocked during your stay. In regards to the French Toast, this is a standard buffet item that is always on offer. Of course, our breakfast Chefs would have been delighted to cook for you as an a la carte item anytime if requested.

I was most concerned with your last comment as in my last 18 months with the hotel, I have never encountered such an issue. In such instances, either my Executive Assistant Manager or I would always attend to such a complaint, hence we would have dealt with this situation very seriously.

Once again, please accept my apologies and do contact me personally to organise your accommodation next time.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Borostyan
General Manager

Business trip and only one night here. Rooms are a great size and bathrooms and well equipped and a great size (wet room and bath). Beds very comfortable and staff very friendly and helpful. Bar was very comfortable and western prices for cocktails. The location and outside are not of 5 star standard but inside is very pleasant. I was very happy and would stay again even if it was not business and I was paying!

The hotel is fine, but needs a little work in the outside and also in the bathrooms. It looks more like a 4-star hotel than a 4.5 or 5 star...

I have been staying at the Nikko hotel at about this time of year for the last five years. It is a part of the JAL network and, generally, we have had excellent experiences. The rooms are well-equipped and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms are equipped to Japanese standards complete with toilet bidets that are great talking points when your own cultural heritage denies you such luxuries.

Our most recent visit was less reassuring. Perhaps it is because the shopping centre of which this hotel is a part is being refurbished. Perhaps it is because the restaurant and swimming pool were themselves being refurbished. Whichever or whatever, there was a sense of standards slipping. Certainly, the public spaces were as bright and shiny as ever and the reception staff was helpful and smiling. However, it would be good to know in advance that the swimming pool would be closed at the time you were planning to stay. The breakfast room was relocated for the period of refurbishment, and space was not a problem. However, food was. For a 5-star hotel, the range and quality of cooked food was unimaginative, ordinary, and sometimes cold. I can see no point in acres of doughnuts, cakes and buns when the fundamentals are not there. Given the numbers of high-hatted chefs who turn up on the dot of 9.30 to clean away, it is not clear what they have been doing before then. The Nikko persists in charging for a very slow and inadequate Internet link. Both issues need to be addressed urgently – there should be no charges in a hotel of this standing and the link itself needs to be of a better quality.

The hotel sign needed cleaning and the cigarette bin below it needed emptying when we were there. That said it all. Pity – I hope it gets back to where it was.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your response and your comments are certainly appreciated. In order to provide you with some updates, the refurbishment of the adjacent shopping will be completed in August and I am pleased to advise that we expect no futher noise from the project since they are now completing the fit out.

Our swimming pool has now re-opened with a complete new filtration system to maximise the quality of the water for our guests. Whilst our spectrum project has resulted in our guests enjoying breakfast in alternative venue which did not meet your expectations, we are certainly looking forward to opening the doors to the new and sensationally designed Spectrum Restuarant in August. I know that the above complaints were issues during your stay, but I do hope you return to experience all the new improvements to our hotel and shopping complex. I have sent you an email inviting you to book direct with me when you next wish to stay to enable me to personalise your stay with us. Thank you for your review and I hope that we can make amends when you next wish to stay.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Borostyan

I stayed at Nikko for business trips. The room was clean and comfortable. Wifi was expensive, 100 RMB / 24 hrs. Lounge bar's live music was too loud to have a couple of drinks after work and chat with collegues. The Japanese restaurants was on the expensive side but the food was good. Location is good, close to shopping centres and restaurants. It is difficult to get to the main entrance by taxi. All in all good value.

Centrally located downtown close to main shopping and dining areas (The Exchange) make this hotel a wonderful choice. It's perfect to have access to the high energy of the surrounding area within walking distance but also to be able to return to the tranquility of the hotel rooms and restaurants. The hotel decor is soothing, chic, and tasteful in all aspects. The breakfast buffet was fabulous with an array of high quality options. The only down side is that the hotel entrance is located on a back street so, when exiting the building, best to take a right to access the main boulevard. When exiting left, I had to navigate enthusiastic beggars. All in all, though, a beautiful hotel that was very comfortable, convenient, and restful for my business stay in TIanjin.
