“Great location but like Faulty Towers in the tropics. Not for international tourists tourists”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

UK tourists: We stayed here in March 2013. We had two rooms with only three people in total. Each night we were kept awake by Indian families next door where they had half a dozen people staying, for the same price. The location of the hotel is first class and we loved the beach and area. The rooms were lovely. However, being British we found the temperature at lunch time and dinner time to be absolutely unbearable. We were dripping in sweat and it was very unpleasant. I can't eat spicy foods and they kindy allowed me to eat at the beach reseaurnat (less curry) but not the rest of my family. Not that helpful! By the second day we had nicknamed the hotel Faulty Towers due to the service which was so abysmal you could only laugh. Drinks would take 30 minutes to arrive and then be wrong anyway (in a hotel in this price range, waiters should know the difference between a pot of tea and coffee- they don't). The service was so bad it ruined our holiday but it didn't seem to bother anyone but us, and neither did the heat during meal times. The only place to eat that was chilled was the restaurant, but the noise in this place from families often 20+ was insane and we walked out a few times, missing breakfast. All in all, the hotel is beautiful and some aspects we loved (pool, beach, views). However, I have to be honest and say the hotel is aimed at wealthy Indian families rather than foreign tourists.

We stayed at Leela on 6 and 7 Aug 2013 in the Club rooms. The location of the resort is unparralled for the view you get of the Indian ocean. The rooms are perched close to the sea and u feel u are on a cruise with the sound of the sea hitting the rocks. The hospitality was again of the highest order with the team lead by Tarun Sharma. The infinity pool is not to be missed. Overall, we had an amazing time. Highly recommended

Room Tip: Club rooms for fanastic view of the arabian sea

This hotel is one of the best in Kovalam, the property is good, even the rooms are V clean & comfortable, but the property is too large & some of the rooms are very far, so takes too long to reach the main area. The hotel provides buggy's but they take too long to come & pick so waste of time waiting for the same.

The beach connected to hotel is not worth at all.

Over all good property but not value for money.

Room Tip: If u want 5 Star hotels than this is a good choice, but there are other options at Poovar Beach whic...

2 hotels in one, the main part quite big with all the usual facilities, restaurant overlooking the pool, gym etc and "the club" a little separate from the main part, fewer rooms and a more discrete feel. We were in the club, it has its own spa and gym, pool and small restaurant overlooking the infinity pool.

The beach is a 3-4 minute walk downhill on the way there, and is not the golden sands of holiday brochures and while we were there infested with purple jelly fish but the sea is powerful and dynamic and its great to see the boats float in and out with their catch.

Staff friendly, both spas decent, although I preferred the international one at the club.

There isnt really all that much to do around here, so come with a good few books and a mind to relax

Room Tip: go for the club, especially if you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet

This Resort was a combination of Royal Life and authentic Kerala life..The staff were excellent. particularly when we had a worrying time over a missing wallet. The managers were extremely understanding and helpful. Although the private beach was very nice it was somewhat disappointing to see the some wastes in water which made swimming a not very enjoyable experience. Food was the main attraction in the stay. Resort of-course keeping an international standard in Food selection.Overall our stay was a wonderful way to finish our holiday and we would love to stay again..

We stayed for a second time at the Leela Kovalam from aug 10th till 13th. We booked online for the All moments package at the Leela, which includes all meals, we also made an online booking for a spa treatment. We got a garden pavilion room with beach view, we liked it a lot. It was amazing waking up close to the beach! Our overall experience was good, till we had to check out! To our surprise, we had to pay for all our meals although we had booked the all in package. When we asked for an explanation, the guy on the check out desk said they tried to call us day before our arrival to say the package we booked was not available anymore. But we never had missed calls! Even at the time of checking in, nobody mentioned our package wasn t available. We then showed him the confirmation mail we received from the Leela and after discussing with the manager, he agreed to take the meals off the bill. They also tried to make us pay twice for the spa treatment! So my advice is to check your bill in detail while checking out! Because of this we decide not to stay anymore with the Leela in the future because there are other hotels, where we never had such a problem!

Room Tip: Ask for beach view if u book a garden pavilion room

I stayed with my family at this place in July 2013. Got a good deal with monsoon offer. The rooms were well decorated, however was not very clean as they had to rush to accommodate an early check in request.

The terrace swimming pool was very nice. the beach view from the swimming pool was breath taking! The food at the restaurants were wonderful.

Overall an enjoyable stay at Leela kovalam.
