Booked this hotel via Hotels.com. On arrival, the staff were not expecting us and took several hours to find us out two pre-paid rooms. Eventually two rooms became available. Both rooms were basic, with a rusting fridge. Half the lights didn't work, the aircon unit was deafening, the towels looked like they hadn't been cleaned from the previous residents. The bathroom was crawling with tiny ants or mites. We reluctantly stayed the three pre-paid nights, during our stay there was no attempt by staff to clean the room. They reluctantly provided 2 cleanish towels for 4 of us to share. The pool was infested with insect life and with rubbish and glass bottles on the bottom. This has got to be probably the worst place that I have ever stayed and certaily wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Don't book a room here!

I visited Kovalam for the first time with family in June 2012, and booked this hotel through Expedia as the rates eemed OK.

THE GOOD
-spacious room for 4 adults
-Health faucet in all toilets
-neat
-near the beach
-quiet place, no bar and brawls
-a library with novels and magazines
-staff are polite, until they notice any wastage
-room rates are reasonable when OFF season
-a sit-out area is attached to the room WITH rocking chair and swinging chair which are very relaxing

THE BAD
-very expensive food and not worth the money, they don't even offer water for free in a jug, you have to buy mineral water and keep, to drink in your room
-hotel staff are limited so it will take time to get your order done
-phone was not working
-you may not get parking easily if the hotel is full
-hotel staff are overtly concerned about any wastage.

Room Tip: -Select the rooms on the 2nd floor only as those on the first are old fashioned with noisy AC and s...

We have just returned from holiday in Kovalam where we stayed at the Moonlight. We found the rooms were large and comfortable, we had a large balcony with swing seats with a sea view. The cleaning staff were always very helpful with anything we asked for. Management staff were extremely polite and helpful. We had room 301 and there was a problem with a leaking bath. They did not hesitate and moved us up to room 401 which has a better view. We would also recommend the Rainbow restaurant which is part of the Moonlight. The breakfast was fine, although some of the previous reviews have complained about it. We had lunch there only once and it was the best meal we had in kovalam over the 14 day holiday. We certainly wished we had eaten there more often. Some of the other reviews speak about cleanliness round the pool area and restaurant whilst we were there they were swept every day. We would definately recommend the Moonlight to anyone thinking of staying in Kovalam.

Room Tip: Best room 401 followed by 301

My wife and I stayed here for three very hot and humid days. We specified our requirement for air conditioning because my wife has a medical condition that makes her especially sensitive to heat. When the first night we complained the a/c was not working properly, we were assured it was a temporary problem that would pass. It did not pass; and, after repeated requests, they finally sent a repairman who said it couldn't be fixed until after we were scheduled to leave. During this process I learned the a/c problem had continued for some time, and that the hotel had a new manager who economized by avoiding repairs. I learned further he required the staff to misrepresent these conditions.

Availability of Wifi was likewise misrepresented.

This was our second visit to this hotel which is now under new ownership. Everything was as good as last time but better. The staff were more than helpful and very polite. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast and pool are added bonus. The new manager is very helpful but not pushy. One day we were meeting friends and tried to phone them from reception but could not contact them. The reception person offrerd to lend me his personnel mobile phone for the day, thats what i call helpful staff. Will certainlly look at returning again. Payed £ 630 for 16 nights 3 persons, breakfast and tax included.

Moonlight is in and excellent position just a few minutes walk from both of the main beaches in Kovalam. We could see the sea through the palm trees from our balcony. the room was large, clean and comfortable with a fridge and hanging chairs on the balcony. The wi -fi never worked during our stay, there is a terminal in reception which is often in use by the reception staff. Breakfast is taken in the restaurant opposite, the breakfast included in the room rate, eggs ,toast, juice ,tea were adequate BUT although the staff were very pleasant and plentiful they had great difficulty in preparing more than one breakfast at a time! which lead to very long waits before anyone takes you order let alone delivers any food.
