I purchased a Scoopon voucher for 5 nights, May 1 - 6 which included breakfast and an airport pickup, which I thought was quite good value.
It's always a joy when things go to plan, so I was pleased to arrive at Bali airport and find the driver waiting for me as arranged. At 9.30pm the trip took around 40 minutes to the Villas. The on line photos are a good representation of the property - lush, tropical gardens superbly manicured by Made, in a quiet, serene oasis, surrounded by a high wall (with an overnight security guard), so I felt very safe. There are 4 villas in total, each one a different style in the Balinese tradition. I stayed in Villa 2, which for me, was absolutely perfect. It was meticulously cleaned by the very friendly Gusti, every day. A huge comfortable bed in a very large bedroom, with an equally large bathroom with sunken shower. The bedroom includes a day bed and small tv (providing 6 channels all in Indonesian) located on a cabinet containing a small bar fridge. The air conditioning unit in the bedroom was quiet and effective. I slept each night like a log, falling asleep to the gutteral croak of the randy bullfrog in the pond outside the bedroom door, then being awoken each morning by the prized cock (who had obviously survived another night of the illegal but thriving cock fighting). I found the shower water pressure adequate, but the water was cold on most days (great after a long day out, but not so good first thing in the morning). Adjacent to the bedroom is a kitchen area with gas cooktop, a table and chairs, and another concrete style day bed. Only basic cutlery, crockery and utensils are provided. But I would recommend eating out each day at the Hacienda restaurant a short walk down the road, the pizza place serving wood fired pizzas, Red Salt, Grocer and Grind, or the extremely inexpensive cafes located on the lava rock at Echo Beach. Perenanan Beach at the end of the road, as well as Echo Beach, are excellent black sand surfing beaches, so there are several surf schools located in the area. The villa has 2 bicycles available to guests. The cream ladies bike I was given had flat tyres, one gear, and no brakes - extremely dangerous - but it got me around, and it was free. The local villagers are very friendly, hospitable, and happy to give directions or just say hello.
There is an in-room information booklet, but I found it did not pertain to this property. For example, there was no kettle in the room, so during the day it was not possible to make a cup of tea or coffee. Apparently I had to ask for one, but I was not given this information. In fact there was no information given to me about what to do or where to go. I suggest a new in-room booklet be prepared containing accurate accommodation information, and, as a previous reviewer suggested some time ago, but which has not been acted upon, up to date information and brochures be provided in each villa. Money can't be exchanged at the villa, however there is an ATM in Echo Beach, and also an honest young man who will exchange any cash for rupiah a few metres towards the beach from the ATM. There is also a doctor's surgery not far along the same road as the villas. Again, you won't find this information available to you at the villa. Wifi works intermittently, dropping out and deleting my first 3 attempts at this review.
The daily gourmet breakfast I was promised consisted of 4 slivers of watermelon followed by a piece of toast with 2 eggs. No tomato, no mushroom, no garnish. No pancakes or french toast as described by a previous reviewer. And orange cordial, tea or coffee. Adequate, but boring morning after morning, and not exactly what I would call "gourmet".
The access to Premier Beach Club in Seminyak, which was a big selling point as advertised by Scoopon, was of no value as there was no shuttle provided.
The villa is currently managed by Gede, who could well do with some training in management and inter-personal skills. His English is adequate, but he just isn't there often, and when he is, he does not contribute any suggestions as to where to go, what to do, etc. I had asked to view the other villas so that I could add these to this review, but he didn't get around to showing me.
There is no doubt that with a more pro-active Manager who could contribute to each guest's experience in this beautiful paradise, these villas would most certainly score a 10 out of 10.
