From our Outdoor Bathroom to my Private Swimming Pool to our Fabulous 6' X 9' Bed, everything was Excellent and I would only give Hotel Tugu my Highest Recommendation for anyone wanting to have a one of a Kind Experience! Close to a quiet Beach, Great Waves and some Black Sand Beaches, everything was the BEST!!

We enjoyed a peaceful four day stay at this wonderful hotel. The service was extremely personal with staff addressing you by name and going the extra mile even to provide ear plugs when an annual religious event external to the hotel was creating a lot of noise. The food was delicious and food menu quite extensive. Rooms are well appointed and the grounds are filled with sculptures.

Dear CKMJ74,

Thank you so much for posting a great review on TripAdvisor! Your comments beautifully describe the peace you can experience at our Tugu in Canggu and we sincerely appreciate the positive comments about our food.

Thank you also for mentioning our attention to details in regards to the ceremony in the temple closest to us, it is a one time only ceremony and one of the biggest in the island, but it is not something that will be repeated again.

We will be delighted to welcome you back & please do not hesitate to contact us for any assistance you may require at anytime.

With warmest and fondest thoughts of you,

This place is absolutely stunning and the whole feeling is that you are staying in someones rambling home rather than a big modern resort. There is room after room of antiques (the giant Garuda in the foyer is the biggest in Bali) and the public areas are unusual in that you can choose to eat in almost any of them.

This is the perfect place if you like to surf and also you love good food. Love the idea that you can get breakfast served any time and any place. Sunsets are awesome and if you can ride, you can get a horseride on the beach right from the front.

It does however have a few disadvantages. Out of the seven nights we were there, we could go to bed only 2 nights without earplugs. Additional to this, a quiet sleep-in was impossible on two mornings because of the same reason. This was because of the temple being very close by and using loudspeakers for screaming prayers. Now having been to Bali over a dozen times I understand deeply how the spirituality of the people flows through everything and that is one of the key reasons one comes here...however, it is really hard to retain a feeling of peace and happiness when the same screeching voices replay for three hours at night and then again in the morning. Perhaps, ask ahead of time if special festivals are on because it really does impact. There is also another bar/lawn restuarant right next to this and on Fri-Sunday it again is pretty noisy til late. The bar itself is not a bad place to visit but if you don't want to hear the loud music and the people yelling til late, it's not exactly, again, the most peaceful place. (Oh and BTW - we arent old, just wanting a bit of sleep on our holiday after working hard!)

The best thing though about Tugu isn't the amazing food or the rooms, it's the people. The staff do their utmost to please and will answer any cultural questions you may ask. The cultural dance show is really high quality and had some of the best dancing I have seen in Bali. The spa services are ok, but the spa staff try really hard and the mantra massage was beautiful. Overall, Ill be back- even if it's just to see the koi in my suite garden!

Room Tip: The rooms closest to the beach.

Dear Imaginelle

Thank you for leaving such a lovely review of the hotel on TripAdvisor. We were pleased to learn that you enjoyed our selection of legendary Balinese dances and a pleasure to hear that our staff really made a difference to your stay. I will of course pass this kind comments on to our teams.

Thank you as well for sharing a constructive feedback about the noise from our neighboring temple. They are having a special celebration in the month of May in addition to Galungan, since they are finalising a new temple withing their premises which should be done before the end of the month. The restaurant closest to us offers live acoustic music on Fridays until 10pm as you mention, but we will monitor the noise since this should never cause any nuisance to our Tugu guests. My most sincere apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

Our Tugu family will be very happy to welcome you again anytime for a more relaxing stay,

Warmest regards,

Marta Escribano Martin

While sitting in the lobby sipping my refreshing welcome drink, I was in awe at the hotel's decorations and art pieces on the wall. Later the manager explained that the owner was an art collector and that some of the artefacts were hundreds of years old! The manager further explained that our stay included a 15 minute complimentary massage and daily tea time at 4 pm, in which they served traditional Indonesian desserts. The massage was very revitalising as the masseuse skilfully took all the aches in my muscles away. Beautiful set up of the room, every night without fail, a beautiful note was placed on the bed with a poem or quote. The staff are very professional, attentive and friendly, especially Maggie, who has been so helpful of going out of her way to explain the different sightseeing locations, her 'secret' restaurants and making sure I was taken care of. All in all it was an absolute pleasure staying at Tugu Bali!

My husband and I arrived at Hotel Tugu world weary and ill and in desperate need of a holiday! Any tropical stay in Bali should have sorted us out, but we count ourselves very lucky that we chose to stay at Hotel Tugu for six nights. There is something very special about this property - the smiling staff, the tranquil setting, the low-key vibe - that allowed us to utterly escape from the outside world.

It is difficult to define this property, as it somehow manages to blend rustic beach relaxation with understated luxury. It was the little things at Tugu - the way housekeeping would seemingly wave their magic wand during even the shortest periods that we were out of our room; the way our king-sized bed was on extra high legs to allow us to appreciate the 180 degree views from the windows in our Rejang suite. But our favourite thing was having breakfast served each morning on our balcony overlooking wildly beautiful Canguu beach. Indeed, Tugu will indulge you by serving your meals pretty much anywhere on the property or the beachfront. We took two romantic dinners by the lotus pond and one torchlit warung-style on the beach. We felt incredibly spoilt and the food and drinks menu was comprehensive (Indonesian and Western options) and everything was of the highest quality and very reasonably priced.

If venturing out, you must try Old Man's cafe across the road as well as Tugu's own funky beachside cafe. We booked a taxi one evening to to have a night out in Seminyak, which was a bit of an assault on the senses after gloriously beachy, barefoot, boho Tugu and we were glad to return to our home away from home. Tugu, we love you guys.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for the upstairs Rejang suite with an ocean view. We loved ours, room 206. Origina...

Hotel Tugu was a perfect place to stay. The staff were discreet and there were many options of eating wherever one wanted, be it your room or lounge rooms or near the beach.
The decor was historic with an abundance of Indonesian antiques giving an old world feel.I loved it.
