An overall very good experience. The rooms are not really extraordinary but the wooden walls and the design make them cosy and comfortable. Heating was not very powerful though, enough for us but we were wondering how it would be in winter! Maybe we should use the nice fireplace in the lobby ! Bar and breakfast were good, overall facilities excellent, especially the spa with very good massages and a nice swimming pool. Unfortunate that the sauna is not mixed.

The main gripe I have about this hotel is that it's at least 30 percent higher than it should be in all pricing categories, when compared to similar hotels in other parts of Vietnam. Not a spectacular value for money.

Having said that, I was happy to have stayed there. We spent 2 nights in Oct 2009 and the weather was sometimes iffy. It was nice to have the facilities of this hotel (pool, wet/dry sauna, nice lobby with games, pool table) for the kid. With many of the cheaper hotels in Sapa, you just get a room.

A few details:
- rooms are small
- some rooms, including more pricy suites, can be very noisy if you're a sensitive sleeper
- food/drinks are very expensive and not terribly well-prepared
- excellent housekeeping with extensive evening cleaning of rooms
- hotel was nice about letting us check in at 8am and leave at 5:30pm due to train schedule
- best restaurant within walking distance is Red Dao, where food is better than hotel and less than half the price
- saunas/pool area very nice and a great place to unwind after hikes
- massages are so-so
- charge is a whopping $34/night (incl taxes) for rollaway bed

Bottom line: If you want a bit more luxury or if you have kids, bite the bullet and pay it. If you want to save a bit, look elsewhere.

Sapa was our last destination of our mountain bike tour. I had been to Victoria Sapa in 1998 and 2000 so I was happy to stay there again.

Many things have changed in Sapa since the opening of the Victoria (the Hotel was the first foreign project in Sapa at that time and there was nowhere else to stay).

The hotel has been designed 15 years ago and the standards have now evolved. The rooms are now too small, the finishes are poor, etc. Even the TVs have not been changed since the opening!

The indoor pool used to have a heating system in the winter but I suppose that the management decided to save on the costs and we coudn't even bathe.

The rooms are worth 80-90 USD max. but I was charged 130 USD.

The only thing really enjoyable is the fire place and the food: we ordered a degustation menu and it was wonderful (pricey for course, but what do you expect if you order foie gras and bourgogne in Sapa?)

Today, I would recommend the travellers to try some other places except for couples who are ready to pay more to avoid trouble.

We found this hotel a real disappointment. The rooms were nice but no more so - disappointing at the price. The bathrooms were just dreadful - so dated- frankly I'd expect better in a budget hotel chain. The lack of AC was also annoying, especially for this class of hotel - Sapa doesn't have the intense heat of Hanoi, but it still gets hot!

The front desk staff were probably the unfriendliest we came across in Vietnam. They were moderately helpful but certainly didn't go out of their way. At check in, the person looking after us started to check another couple in before he was finished with us - very very irritating and not a good start.

The swimming pool/spa is lovely - I loved swimming whilst looking at the mountains through the large windows. However this hotel really needs to get the basics right.

I expected a lot better from this.

We travelled on the Victoria Express which was good fun. In contrast, the staff were extremely helpful and the service was good.

We stayed at Victoria Sapa for 3 nights and we booked it together with the train. We had a private 2 berth cabin on the train which we upgraded for on the spot. The ride was comfortable but loud. We also upgraded for a private cabin on our way back. The two way upgrades costed $200.00 U.S. for two people, but it was definately worth it if privacy and comfort is important to you. In Lao Cai we got met by our guide who took us in a private car to Victoria Sapa. The hotel itself is really nice and clean. Chalet decor and style. We were in a top floor deluxe room with stunning views of the hotel, mountains and parts of Sapa town. Breakfast was great with a wide variety of foods. One day we ordered room service dinner (springrolls, and the Sapa mushroom soup) it was not good at all and really expensive, so for the next few days we opted out to eat at local restaurants in town, which was a great choice. We ate at Gecko's which was good. We also ate at emotion restaurant and the food was so great that we went back 2 more times. We also ate at a good restaurant I forgot the name but it had sweet buns in the window, situated at the end of the main street. Back to the hotel, it is well equipped with all types of amenities that everyone can make use of.
The only thing is that there was no shuttle bus provided from Lao Cai to the hotel, and also from the hotel to Sapa town as it is about 10-15 minute walk, also as it is situated on a hill, it does not cater to the elderly or injured. You can access the town walking down the stairs right by the hotel, or taking a longer down the hill (paved road). However, it is quite scary at nights,as the road to the hotel and the stairs are not lit and there are plenty locals around. Other than that, I really enjoyed my stay and would definately come back and recommend it to others.

The Victoria in Sapa was a divine experience!!

The train there was a wonderful journey, comfortable and clean but then with the superb surprise of a restaurant, not serving train food but delightful dishes that we still yearn to try again now that we are home. On arrival at the Victoria, check in was incredibly smooth, friendly and quick. Our room was clean and rustic, in such an environment it would be almost criminal to put in air cons and fans as others have noted that it was without. Sapa is an experience to be had, and the Victoria delivers on every level.

Do not be tempted to venture out to eat in the evening though! The culinary delights in the restaurant are something we would go back for alone, (we spent the rest of our Asian adventure wishing that other resorts we stayed at could have met the same standards!!) a dream to find a top class chef in such a remote location. And the wine list impeccable!! The Front desk manager was incredibly friendly, helpful and always around to help. Do not miss the opportunity to go and meet the local tribe ladies in the shop either, some of the friendliest ladies i have had the opportunity to meet.

I am a female and was travelling alone with my 7 year old son, yet at no time did i experience anything that would put me off staying here again .... on the contrary ... there are few places in the world i can say that of!!

All in all, I would transport myself back there right now .... and sincerely hope that one day i am able. Sapa is where heaven meets earth they say .... then be rest assured - The Victoria doors are the gateway.

The Victoria Sapa was a beautiful spot to stay in Sapa. After spending the day trekking it was a welcome place to relax at the end of the day. The food in the restaurant was superb, and the chef came out each evening to say hello, and genuinly cared about our enjoyment. Perched on the hillside just above the town sqaure. Everything in town was easily accessable on foot, yet still away just enough for peace and quite. Very relaxing. As well the train, and its manager were most helpful with inside tips on what to do, where to see, and even helped us find a guide for our trekking. Will definatly go back next time I want to spoil myself.
