Aparthotel Sighisoara
Reviewed 22 August 2013

It was a nice apartments hotel, we had 2 rooms with Fully equipped kitchen. The location was good, in walking distance from the historical center. Good fast wi-fi, very friendly staff. The hotel was ok, although I would have not picked it if I had other choices...
And the reason is -
noisy busy street even at night, when you close the windows to have some silence and turn on the air conditioner it produces even more noise... It was not possible to have a good rest there.
For 60 EUR a night I'd expect breakfast to be included.

These apartments are in a great location - only 10 mins walk from the train station. They are ideally situated for exploring the old town. Our apartment was clean and very spacious. We had two bedrooms, AC, t.v. and a small kitchen area. The bathroom was clean and modern - although there was no shower curtain! The guy on reception gave us a warm welcome and seemed friendly enough. You could buy breakfast downstairs, we tried it one morning it was cheap enough but very average.
The downside to this apartment was that it was on the main road through the town...not a problem if the double glazing was decent and the windows closed fully. The road was very busy day and all through the night and for whatever reason everyone insists on tooting their car horn as the go through the traffic system. It was difficult to get a good nights sleep. There was no lift but this did not bother us.

Room Tip: Ask if they have rooms at the back away from the road!

Location is great--we took the bus from Brasov and it drops off right across the street. No lugging bags up into the old town, which would not have been fun. The old town is not a good place to stay. Don't bother with the expensive B&Bs up the hill. Sighisoara is so small, it takes 5 minutes to get to the cute part of the old town from this location. Better to be down here, were it is much more convenient. Also, the value is super. The apartment allows for cooking, and that is important in Sighisoara. All there are for nearby restaurants are pizzerias and tourist joints. It's also an apart-hotel, meaning there is a front desk with professional managers and good staff. Although one can make Sighisoara a day-trip, we had a good time staying several nights. We rented bicycles from the tourism information office, and rode to a fortified church 14k from town. We also hiked to the old growth oak tree forest.

Spacious, clean room with a huge living room, equipped kitchen and a modest bedroom. Fears that it will be noisy were not confirmed, closed windows helped to sleep well.

Good location, free parking, apartment is very nice and has plenty of room.
Can walk to old town.
The only problem we had was the lack of elevator.

The windows were trembling by the passing by lorries. The air cooler was very noisy. The bedroom was at a very claustrophobic loft. The carpet of the room had a heavy smell from the cleaning detergents used.No elevator. It was a negative experience.
We traveled for 2 weeks all around Romania,we stayed at 9 hotels/apartments,this was by far the worst.

Good points:
- Private parking
- Ability to self-cater
- Plenty of space
- Short walk to old town
- Cheaper per person than staying in local hotels
Bad points:
- AC is noisy (internal units rather than split units)
- Bar opposite sometimes has a DJ playing outside on terrace till late
- Oven and/or grill would be useful (only had a twin hob)
- On a busy street (main route passing town)

The staff were friendly and helpful when asked for advice/recommendations and the apartment itself is a useful base for anyone wanting to explore the area, particularly by car (it's more difficult to find parking up in the citadel). The hotel has no special charm or authenticity, nor does it have views to speak of, but it's only a 5-10 minute walk into the old town/citadel so what you lack in atmosphere you gain in convenience. If you are looking for a more romantic or atmospheric stay in Sighisoara you're probably better off picking one of the hotels up in the citadel

There is a small grocery shop about 100m away where you can pick up basic supplies (bread, cheese, salami, tomatoes, coffee, etc.) which is useful for self-caterers. There is a Penny Market about 5 mins drive away if you need more. The parking, although private and off-road, is not secured. I think the worst thing was the air conditioning which was very noisy - with it on you can hardly hear yourselves talk! I would also have been nice to have at least a toaster as there was no grill, only a two-ring electric hob - good enough for boiling an egg or making a coffee, but that's about it. The bar across the road can get noisy at nights so I would recommend asking for a room at the back of the hotel. Had a large bathroom with hot water and clean towels.

We're in the area again next month and were happy enough with the experience to book it again (especially as the outside disco will have hopefully closed by now and we no longer need to worry about AC). If you are travelling with a small group or a family with kids then this accommodation will suit you well. If you are a couple then I'd probably recommend something up in the citadel (eg. Casa Wagnar or Casa cu Cerb) to get a better feel for the place.
