The hotel is over rated and there is not much to do in Sighisoara itself. We did find a wine bar with a comedic owner that was fun, but once you climb the 175 plus stairs, that is about it. The hotel has hard synthetic pillows and $155.00 a night in Romania is over the top for this location. The linens were not exceptional. We had ants in the bathroom, and our daughter's room had a bathroom with a pungent bad odor. I would not recommend this location. Bathroom has hand held shower heads in a tub with no shower curtains. There is no elevator, so you have to lug your belongings up a flight of outdoor stairs to the rooms. The rooms themselves are large, and sparsley furnished. We stayed at a pension in Targu Mures that was a mansion and paid $60.00 a night. It was in the old city centrum. Other venues were similarly priced in Romania.

Room Tip: Suggest you plan your trip so that Sighisoara is a short daytime stop on your way to another place...

After we entered the room, my first reaction was a "wow, the ghost of Dracula must be hiding here under the bed". The room was decorated in an ancient style with Gothic arches on the ceiling and two big red candles in front of the mirror. A real medievel atmosphere talentfully combined with modern comfort (I doubt if Dracula had ever slept in such a comfortable bed...).
The bathroom was designed in the same style with stone-covered walls and floor. The hotel is centrally located, which is great , but on the other side, it is noisy. I saw on some sites the hotel has an air-condition, I did not find any in our room, yet we had to close the window because of the noice and could open it only in the middle of the night for some fresh air.
This was the only annoying thing I can say about this hotel. All-in-all, it was a very nice experience.

Room Tip: A room with air condition always upgrades your stay, no matter where the room is located

The Fronius is a surprisingly upscale boutique retreat in the middle of the Citadel area. The setting is medieval, and the hotel's decor expertly reflects the surroundings. But the rooms have recently been upgraded with ultra-modern fixtures and technology. They're quite spacious, too, and extremely well-appointed and comfortable. The rooms sit off a back garden that's private and quiet, despite the hubbub of the Citadel only a few meters away. We enjoyed a breakfast of fresh-baked breads and jams and coffee in a cozy dining area. The staff were a remarkably friendly bunch, very much at ease both with the business travelers staying there as well as the tourists on holiday. Fronius Residence is one of those rare finds -- a real gem of a hotel.

I booked this small hotel without knowing much more about it apart from the information on its Web page and, having seen the eye-catching pictures of neatly arranged rooms, I had quite high expectations. To my surprise, the expectations were greatly exceeded, this small and unique retreat being akin to a medieval traveler’s inn, only in perfect condition and furbished with modern technology.

We stayed in one of the nicest rooms, called Patricia and the atmosphere was delightful. The room was spacious, very clean, retaining many of the original features from the 17th century, with a view to the narrow road, typical for medieval towns stretching in front of the hotel. The location of the hotel is super-central so one can wander around the old town without getting lost; in addition, a very beautiful church, the third largest in Transylvania according to the local staff, is just 15 minutes away from the hotel and it pays to give it a visit.

The hotel staff were very friendly and nice, we were welcomed with a local liqueur made from dark cherries (the equivalent of Sherry I guess) and they provided us with information about what to see/do to get a feel for this medieval small town.

The only disadvantage that this hotel has is that it doesn’t have its own restaurant (though one can understand why, this is simply a very nice inn, not a “hotel” in the most common sense) so for dinner one has to venture to other nearby locals, though there aren’t many options. The staff recommended dinner at a hotel located 20 meters down the road, Hotel Sighisoara, and the food was good, on a scale from 0 to 10 it deserved a 8.5. Fronius, however, serves breakfast, a combination of cheeses and ham, fruit, jam, some veggies, nothing extraordinary but better than nothing ahead of a day on the move. All in all it was a very pleasant experience and I would consider coming back again. I think the ideal stay is for 1, maximum 2 nights. As a final comment, the staff told me the hotel is most packed in the summer season so those wanting to stay there have to make reservations 2 months or so ahead (in my case it was one week ahead, the town was fairly empty in April).

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main road seem to be more spacious and more posh.

We stayed in Residence 2, a very large, restored 16th Century chamber with all modern conveniences and good WiFi connection. Friendly, personal service and a nice breakfast featuring local cheeses and jams served in a garden setting (weather permitting). Even if the services weren't as good as they are, just the stunning environment makes it worthwhile. There is no AC and the weather was warm but the room remained comfortable, I assume because of the thick stone walls.

We were absolutely delighted to find this hotel. Our room was enormous and beautifully appointed. All mod cons but set in medieval 16 century setting. I can't comment about the other rooms but definitely I would recommend the Patricia Room if you weren't sure which one to opt for - you definitely won't be disappointed. Well situated to explore the old city and very friendly and helpful staff.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fronius. The 400 year old residence successfully blends old world charm with modern convenience. On arrival we were greeted by the lovely and very witty Maria Daniela who offered us a welcome cocktail of delicious homemade cherry liqueur.(I would ask for one each evening we stayed!) We were directed through the courtyard to our room, residence number 1. Two kind gentlemen that appeared to be handymen carried our luggage up the stairs for us. Maria Daniela showed us around our room which had a king sized bed that included down coverlets and four large fluffy pillows. Some of the original painting still remained on the arched brick ceiling and almost all the hardware on the doors is original. The all stone bathroom had a nice deep soaking tub and hand held shower head (not really a stand up shower) Old windows opened up to the cobblestone street below where there was always activity to watch. The hotel is situated just outside the covered stairs leading to the church on the hill which is a popular tourist attraction. There are two souvenir shops to the right of the hotel. They have most of the same items as the other shops but also have a few pieces of nicely done paintings for sale. I purchased one for 180 lei which I felt was very reasonable for an 11 x 16 oil painting of Sighisoara. Our stay could not have been more perfect...thank you Fronius for making us feel at home in an authentic medieval setting!

Room Tip: Choose your room by the bed size you need. All the rooms are old world perfection!
