This is a must see spot to get some beatiful photos of the walled city of Avila. Most day tours will stop here but if you are on your own you need to stop.

Erected in 1556 just outside Avila, The Four Posts is an ancient greek looking shrine with a cross erected in the center. It marks the spot where seven-year-old Saint Teresa tried to run away to seek martyrdom in battle with the Moors. Her uncle, Francisco, stopped her and made her return to the city. The monument is set in a private field with no parking lots nearby, so you will have to walk there. You will also be rewarded with outstanding views of the city and its medieval walls

Just down the road from the petrol station/cafe is the Four Posts which is an elevated platform overlooking the walled town of Avila which makes it a great spot to take photos of the town before you explore inside

We were there in the morning when the light was all wrong for viewing the city and for photos. We found a different, unsignposted vantage point elsewhere with a much better aspect for the time of day. Learn from our mistake and go there in the afternoon / evening light and I'm sure it will be worth it.

Once you get to the bottom end of the walls of Avilla, you can cross the river and walk on a couple of hundred metres up a slop to this vantage point looking back at the walled town. There is nothing else there, it's just a view back to the town, but the view is superb.

A nice walk our side the city walls but once you reach the four posts the view of the city and its walls is unbelievable. Some lovely photograph opportunities with the city in the backdrop.

The views from here are the things. You can see the town and all the walls so well. The story with this spot is a saint last looked upon the city from here before leaving. I wasn't that interested in that story as much as the views.

Did the city walls walk and exited at the rear of the city and crossed the road and took in the Roman Bridge and you can walk under it along the river and then climbed the hill here to get an unparalleled view of the city. You can also take in a small church on the way back. Great way to spend your day

Not very far from the Walls of Avila, this commemoration to St Theresa is worth the visit. You’re able to view the city from here in panoramic splendour.

Excellent place to start your tour of Avila. Great spot for photos of a large portion of the city walls.
