We stayed at Nar Konak in early August and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay in Turkey. After travelling from Istanbul it was a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Nar Konak is a little oasis above the harbour of Assos with views across the parched hills and Mediterranean coast. The hotel has a very relaxing atmosphere and guests are welcome to lounge around the gardens and spend time in the Nar café where they sell snacks, homemade lemonade etc. And if you don’t feel like eating at one of the local restaurants the owners Gizem and her husband serve food in the evenings on request which I highly recommend.

Without a car it’s an easy downhill walk to Assos harbour which took around half an hour – the views out to the med and the islands made up for the traffic dodging. There is a small beach here, and lots of restaurants and cafes good for an evening aperitif. It’s also worth going to the local beaches a few miles to the east of Assos where you can hire beach beds and an umbrella for a minimal price and get something to eat at the cafes and restaurants nearby. It’s pretty easy to catch the dolmus to and from the beach although I don’t think there’s a precise timetable so it’s a case of waiting in a café and running after one as it bombs past.

My first time in Turkey and had a great holiday.

We were doing an Aegean tour for three weeks in Turkey and stayed in several Boutique Hotels and Nar Konak was without doubt the best place to stay. We stay two nights there and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the place and Gizem's family, they all speak perfect English and Gizem and her husband speak Spanish, they were really attentive and even help us to plan our next destinations in the area.

The location is great, right at the top of the hill with views to the Hüdavendigar Camii and the valley, you could stay around the garden just relaxing or reading. Is very close to the temple of Athenas and a short ride to the old harbor and nice beaches.
The place is very well decorated with notable attention to detail, the rooms are spacious, comfortable and fully equipped.

It was a great experience and a pleasant stay, I would recommend it to any one.

We have spent a month travelling in Turkey and the Nar Konak was by far our favorite night. Our room was spotless and Gizem and her lovely family went out of their way to look after us beginning with a delicious welcome drink after our long drive. Spectacular location next to the temple of Athena, beautiful gardens and a lovingly cared for terrace. We could tell how proud the family was of their beautiful hotel and they had every right to be. Wish we stayed longer!

Room Tip: Has room for family of four

We stayed at Nar Konak in Spring 2013, just as it was starting to get warm. We had heard of Assos and our friends insisted we go and visit the ancient sites. How lucky we were to have stumbled across Gizem in the market who led us to Nar Konak, their family run boutique hotel on the rocks. Gizem and Juan are a lovely young couple who run the place. They were very friendly and told us about their life changing decision to come and run a leisurely place in the countryside instead of dealing with the hassles of city life every day...And it isn't hard to understand why they are so in love with this place. I cant think of a better place to be than here if you want to escape stress/noise/ pollution/crowds etc...This charmingly designed hotel consisting of 6 rooms is hidden away on the ancient rocks of Behramkale, just below the ancient temple. The hosts prepare a lovely breakfast and everyone gets a chance to chat to one another around a large table in the courtyard. Perfect to practise any Turkish words you learn during your holiday :) After a big breakfast, the beautiful seaside and beaches are only a 10 minute drive away..Also lovely people and not crowded. All in all it was a fantastic stay. The whole weekend was an escape we will never forget. Thanks to Gizem, Juan and Skyla who made it that little bit more special!

Located in a hill where you can watch sunrise and sunset, feel the sea breeze, walk to Temple of Athena enjoy the amazing view, taste delicious local produce from the garden and sip a homemade mint lemonade!
The owners were really caring and friendly and they made me feel so much at home that I started to help them clean the table after having breakfast!
Overall, it is a great experience and I highly recommend it!

My wife and I, along with a good friend, have just been to Assos and stayed in Nar Konak a few days ago. This mansion is converted from an old village house into a beautiful boutique hotel. It is at center of the village and almost next to the Athena temple. The old port and some of the famous beaches are also within walking distance. Every corner of the garden and the house reflects a refined yet modest taste. The rooms are big and very comforable. Also, most of them are isolated from each other and even have separate entrances, which gives the guests a sense of privacy. The garden and the patio is peaceful. In short, Nar Konak is a wondeful choice for accomodation if you are in Assos for a cultural tour, a beach vacation or a romantic getaway.

However, there is much more to this hotel than the house or the garden; its owners. Nar Konak is owned and operated by the Selcuk family; the parents Egemen and Serpil, their daughter Gizem and Gizem's husband Juan. In most of the reviews here, including this one, you will read raves about their hospitality and think "there must be an element of exaggeration". That was what we thought before arriving to Nar Konak. There is not!... Their warmth and friendship captivated us almost immediately after we walked through the doors. We felt and are still feeling as if we did not stay in a hotel but visited some friends or relatives in Assos. Just to give a sense, we were having so much fun that we almost did not want to leave the conversation with our hosts and go see the port, the temple or the beaches, all of which are the main reasons to go to Assos (ordinarily). So if you too want to stay in an amazing boutique hotel and also have the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people, Nar Konak should be your choice.

It was our last days in turkey before we moved to new zealand. Assos, also first time for us, had fascinated us with its nature, sea, village, the castle and off course with the Nar Konak on the top of the rocks!!
And now the beatiful impressions that people and the konak had given to us during our short holiday are with us in the other end of the world just in the form of a little red pomegranate souveneir :))
What do we remember? Carefully designed, clean and beatiful rooms, shared courtyard, cute cafe, enermous breakfast with amazing scenery at the backyard, delicious dining while feeling the kaz mountains evening breeze during summer and owners of nar konak with their friendly attitude and sincere chats.
Till that day, we have never felt that much "at home" in a place so that we could spend the whole day without doing anything !!! Peace!!!
