Take the rowing boat across the Dalyan river to "The Other Side" and it's about a half hour walk to Kaunos. 12,000 years of history only re-discovered 150 years ago. It's not only a significant archaeological site but a marvellous wildlife haven as well. Go early to avoid the heat and the crowds. The amphitheatre is similar but larger than the Taormina one, able to seat 5000 people. While there are plenty of information boards around the site it would have been nice to see a small museum with some of the artefacts from the site. The view south across Sülüklü Göl, Lake of the Leeches is lovely. We didn't make it up to the castle for more views back to Dalyan.

Get the boat across from Dalyan, turn left at the other side, walk along the path, maybe buy some local honey, go further up the hill, pay the entrance fee and if you go late in the afternoon you may get the place almost to yourself. Pick the wild thyme.

By foot, of course. It not that much to walk, and the country side is nice. Once on site, explore. Do not rush from one stone to another, because there is not really much to see. But you can make yourself a pretty beautiful afternoon.

the boat trip was nice enough along the river and around the massive lake Kaunos was no anything special there was a market but it was quite small and was really more for the locals to buy fruit, veg and plants . there were some other stalls too but in my opinion it needs to have more traditional wares to sell
