Take the rowing boat across the Dalyan river to "The Other Side" and it's about a half hour walk to Kaunos. 12,000 years of history only re-discovered 150 years ago. It's not only a significant archaeological site but a marvellous wildlife haven as well. Go early to avoid the heat and the crowds. The amphitheatre is similar but larger than the Taormina one, able to seat 5000 people. While there are plenty of information boards around the site it would have been nice to see a small museum with some of the artefacts from the site. The view south across Sülüklü Göl, Lake of the Leeches is lovely. We didn't make it up to the castle for more views back to Dalyan.
