Get the rowboat across Dalyan river then walk a mile to the ruined Greek city of Kaunos which is still to be completely excavated. See the amphitheatre, Roman baths complete with goats wandering everywhere and the odd tortoise too! Go early to avoid the heat and take some water and a hat. If you are energetic and fit climb the hill to the ruined Byzantine castle for a wonderful view but make sure you have good sturdy shoes on if you try this! Not for the fainthearted!

“Amazing and informative”

Definitely worth a visit. amazing how clever people were all those years ago. Not expensive to get in. We get rowed across on the boat and then the walk up which takes about 25 mins. Lovely to walk past all the local houses.

“Worth the effort”

Take the rowing boat across from by the park in Dalyan - 10try return. about 20-30 minutes gentle stroll and you are at the ruins. Take your time and wander as it is really interesting. At the amphitheatre there is a large hill and you can climb it - follow the markings in red on the stone. It takes about half an hour but the view is stunning - uninterrupted from Dalyan to the beach

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Went to this on an organized tour which picked us up at our hotel at 4.30pm we were transferred to the harbour and after a talk about the area we were taken on a short boat ride past the rock tombs. We had an easy uphill walk up to the ruin's of about 20minutes and at that time of the evening was pleasant the ruin's are amazing and our guide explained the history of area given up plenty of time to take in the sights, there is a small charge to enter the sight of 10TL. The views are breathtaking from on the top of the ruins. We a had a about 1 1/2 hours there all told, then walked back down to the boat which took us out onto the lake where we had a BBQ meal of salad and meze with meatballs and chicken cooked fresh drinks were available to purchase at a reasonable cost.
