“Loved this place”

We stayed here 3 nights as part of a 2 week tour of New Zealand. It was the only B&B we chose and a good choice it was. It was the perfect balance of meeting new people and privacy. Our hosts greeted us warmly and made us feel at home. Their lounge and outside deck area was welcoming and accessible at all times so we did not feel confined to our room. The room was comfortable and I was happy to find a small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The local restaurants were very good and we were especially pleased that they were in walking distance so we could enjoy the lovely NZ wines. The Bearing Point was our favourite mostly due to the amazing dessert.

Stayed at Manuka so we could do the Tongariro crossing, but the weather had different plans for us. Thankfully Alan and Susie were so helpful in finding us other walks and waterfalls we could explore. The Spa is wonderful! I can only have imagined how divine it would have been after doing the crossing. Alan started it up for us and brought us out our beers and wine. The breakfast prepared by Susie is spectacular, will surely miss waking up to that. We stayed in the king room upstairs and it was very spacious and modern, very comfortable. Ohakune has great restaurants and shopping and a great place to stay. Hope to be back one day and do the crossing and stay at Manuka again!

My family and I stayed at Manuka Lodge for two nights in January. Susie and Alan greeted us with tea, coffee and homemade biscuits.
Our room was spacious and comfortable and very clean.
As the Tongariro Crossing walk route was closed due to high winds, Alan directed us to another great walk in the area, which we would not have found without his help.
Susie cooks a great breakfast and I can really recommend the sausages!
Overall, Susie and Alan run a really good bed and breakfast and I would recommend Manuka Lodge highly!

We had a wonderful stay with Alan and Susie in January 2013- the only problem was that it was too short- we would like to have longer. Ohakune and the Mt Ruapehu/Tongariro areas ares very interesting with plenty to do,both in winter and in summer.

The accommodation itself is first rate- we had an upstairs room which was large and comfortable with excellent quality bedding. Further we had no problems at all with the large and well appointed bathroom. The view of Ruapehu from the lounge room is fantastic.

Finally, the company and conversation from Alan and Susie was stimulating and funny. We would love to go back.

We stayed at Manuka Lodge at the end of December intending to do the crossing. Unfortunately my wife was quite sick with bronchitis so we were unable to do so.
Alan and Susie were great hosts and did all they could to make my wife comfortable and suggest things that she could manage to do. Manuka Lodge is immaculate, the breakfast is great and we enjoyed being there, despite my wife's problem.
No hesitation in recommending anyone to stay here.
Alan

Pluses: nice location in residential area, quite, nice breakfast.Hot tub. Pleasant host couple, nice people to converse with. comfortable bed. Negatives: Very small downstairs room, shower has no walls, entire bathroom floor gets soaked. I just do not get the logic of this arrangement Summary: Alan takes pride in setting out a nice breakfast for his guests but I would ask for a larger room and one with doors to the shower if available. If you stay, try the hot tub!!

Room Tip: We stayed in the downstairs room, corner location-VERY small and shower is open soaking the whole b...

Thank you for your post. We very much appreciate everyone who takes the time to comment on our endeavours.

It’s fantastic that there were many positives. However, we are very sorry you were disappointed with the size of your room. The Queen room, which you booked, is the smallest of our four rooms. We convey this in several areas on our website, and also during the booking process. I am sorry this wasn’t clear to you.

The shower in the Queen room is a wet area shower and is configured for people with specific mobility requirements. Its design is as much focused on compliance with statutory regulations as it is on logic. Again, we make this known on our website and it should be obvious at time of booking. It is a great plus for us to be able to offer this facility.

We wish you had articulated your disappointments during your stay. We would have offered one of our large King rooms as an alternative; all of these have cubicle style showers. We would have loved the opportunity to convert perceived minuses into pluses.

Susie and I take pride in providing first rate accommodation in the beautiful Ruapehu region. It is important to us that our guests depart thoroughly happy with their stay and experiences. To this end, all constructive criticism is gratefully accepted. We will make sure our descriptions of the Queen room and its facilities are more prominent in the future.

Manuka Lodge tip: if room size is important to you, please book a King.

We look forward to welcoming many more Trip Advisors in the future.

We had a great stay at Manuka Lodge. We really felt welcome and special. Alan and Susie are wonderful hosts. Our room was immaculate, great bathroom and shower. Breakfast was extensive and delicious. The lounge is a pleasant place to spend the evening by the fireplace. After having walked the Tongariro Crossing we were welcomed back at the lodge with a drink and a very pleasant hour with our hosts. Then the spa pool was waiting for us...what a joy.
