Pleasant View Bed & Breakfast Timaru
Ranked #4 of 17 Timaru B&B and Inns
Reviewed 25 August 2012

A bit late in posting, but the first one after a 7 week trip in NZ and OZ. This B&B is the best I have experienced in 20 plus years of traveling the backroads (mostly) of the world. If your looking...do not pass this experience. Rosemary and Ian are great hosts. After Qantas losing our luggage, Rosemary gave us a big welcome and settled us in with a "no worries" warmth. Offered to assist in washing our clothes so we'd have fresh the next morning and then provided the very finest breakfast one could wish for. We were here the end of May and Rosemary and Ian were kind enough to order up a clear day for us, in between rainy days. I had two young granddaughters (early and pre-teen) with me on their first international travel experience and their response as we left Pleasant View, was "WOW this is wonderful". Accommodation are first class, food excellent and hospitality the best. Do not miss..reserve now.

Pleasant View a very modern home, it's perfectly set out for a B&B with two rooms and a separate living room and mini kitchenette downstairs and the owners living area upstairs so you feel like you're staying in your very own house.

We sat in the living watching a bit of news that night drinking wine with a lovely French couple who were also staying here.

I cannot recommend Pleasant View enough, the bed was super comfy, the shower hot (and in our room!) the towels nice and fluffy (heaven) and they make great poached eggs, plus a great spread of fruit, cereal and fresh squeezed orange juice in the morning. The hosts couldn't be lovelier and we left here so refreshed.

Plus Timaru is so cute, the kind of place I imagine is amazing to grow up in where everyone knows each other but the town is big enough to have plenty to do for kids.

After a rainy (and less than satisfactory hostel) in Dunedin a few minutes here and I was back to being happy to be on such a long trip.

We only stayed here to break up our journey so had only a few hours in the town so I cannot help with what to do here, we ate at a pub that I cannot remember the name of and shopped at a big discount store the next day to stock up for the rest of our trip and had some walks in the sunshine but there is plenty to do going by the big tourist office in the town and the books of flyers for activities the B&B gave up!

We had trouble finding this B&B with our GPS (Garmen) the streets in an around Pleasant View didn't come up, however, after finding it we were very pleasantly rewarded. The view is lovely and the property itself is comfortable and clean. Rosemary greeted us and couldn't do enough to help us settle in. The walks along the coast, just outside the door are worth doing. Timaru itself is difficult to park in because there are restrictions in the main street so to find somewhere to eat is a challenge in the time allowed. We ordered Thai the first night, delivered to the door and lovely too. Back to Pleasant View - the room was spacious and comfortable, huge bed and again all lovely and clean. There is a small kitchen and all the mod cons you need to make the stay pleasant. A washing machine too, great. Breakfast was delicious with the best bacon we had on the trip. Thanks Rosemary and Ian we might see you again if we are in New Zealand again.

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms are lovely and private.

We stayed for one night en route to Dunedin.
Accommodation is on the ground floor of this modern home. Our bedroom was large with two windows giving views over the bay. It was very comfortable and clean.
There is a large guest lounge with comfortable furniture, TV, dining table and a small kitchen area. There are good views of the bay from this room,
Rosemary and Ian are very friendly without being intrusive. They served a good breakfast.

We had a wonderful couple of nights staying at Pleasant View. Beautiful accommodation and location. The hosts were so obliging and only too happy to do anything for us. We had the best scrambled eggs there!! Would highly recommend Pleasant View as a place to stay without hesitation.

Room Tip: There are two rooms. Choose the larger room with the views.
