I recently stayed at the Asure Ashley Motor Lodge and was generally impressed with the accommodation. It was spacious and had all the bits and pieces you would expect. The spa bath was a nice touch. When considering the cost, I got what I paid for and won't complain about the decor. The decor was dated but not to the extent that renovation was urgently needed. unfortunately the fridge in my room was noisy so had to be turned off. I found the customer service friendly and helpful. The lady that helped me suggested a restaurant down the road which turned out to be an excellent recommendation.

Unfortunately, a poor nights sleep is never great, especially when you have early starts for business purposes. The noise from the traffic was constant and all night long. As the Motel is located at the top of a hill. with the main through road literally outside, it is impossible to get away from the noise issue. Due to the location and hill, and with an awful lot of heavy trucks using the through road, the main noise offender was the sound of trucks engine braking just outside the motel. Needless to say, I woke up feeling shattered which isn't great when you have to face a day involving a lot of driving.

If it wasn't for the friendly customer service I would have only given two stars but a friendly face always helps lift ones mood.

After the spectacular journey up the Otira Gorge and across its marvellous viaduct, over Arthur's Pass, we continued onto Timaru via Geraldine on the East Coast, accompanied most of this way by the tracks of the Transalpine Railway. Although the journey from Hokitika took several hours, the open roads and beautiful scenery make travelling New Zealand a real pleasure. The Ashley Motor Lodge was a little tricky to find, but when we did so, it was a real find. Carl was most welcoming and said that he had upgraded us as the lodge was fully booked as an Army Brass Band was staying. Our room was spacious, well-appointed and very comfortable, and although the soldiers came back quite late, we all settled down to a good nights sleep. Following Carl's recommendation we ate at Bennys Again earlier in the evening and had good value decent food surrounded by images of Hollywood icons such as Marilyn and Elvis and other similar memorabilia. We has also earlier enjoyed walking the rugged surf tossed coast line, with all kinds and colours of seaweeds blown in off the Pacific Ocean, remembering that we had only left the the Tasman Sea that morning on the West Coast. Although we had intended to drive up to the foothills of Mt. Cook, and the wonders of the Tasman Glacier, the weather took a turn for the worse and we quickly revised our plans, thanks to the wonders of Wi-Fi and Booking.com, and headed north to Kaikoura, for a spot of whale watching.

Room Tip: Carl is the man to ask!

We stayed in this place unexpectantly. We stayed in a 2 bedroom family unit. It was a pleasant stay. No real complaints. It was clean, spacious and quiet. Bed was comfortable. Nothing 5 star but overall I had nothing to complain about wit my stay. I think this is one of the more expensive places in Timaru, but probably worth the extra dollars.

We had an outstanding experience at the Asure. Even though we only stayed for one night, everything was perfect. Roomy living space, well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds and couches and fabulous shower and spa bath. Luxury without the luxury price tag.

Beautiful clean, modern and spacious unit with a Lovely comfortable bed and a great shower. The units capture the afternoon sun. Plenty of parking.
Lovely owners and friendly staff.Carl and Janet are excellent hosts. The room rate is very reasonable. The owners have gone out of their way to ensure we were happy with our room, even offering suggestions of local places for dinner. Highly recommend this Motel, whatever your trip.
