We had a great meal at Oxford.mushroom entree was exceptional , Mains delicious. Steak not quite rare but very tasty and tender. Orange syrup cake for dessert was fab. Excellent service and good wine/ beer selection. Very happy to recommend this restaurant.

“Sublime”
Reviewed 2 January 2014 via mobile

Came upon this restaurant by chance as most venues were closed being 2/1/14. The food was beautifully prepared, I had the sole with fennel -a subtle combination of flavours. My husband had the slow braised lamb, which again was cooked to perfection. Followed by desserts made in heaven, highly recommend the orange drizzle cake!
At $60 inc wine for two courses it was money well spent. Loved the understated decor and the staff were really friendly.

“A very good all rounder in Timaru”
Reviewed 22 November 2013 via mobile

Today I had the good fortune to be included in a family group of ten (very) mature adults to celebrate a Big Birthday.

On arrival we came upon an unfussy but accessible high-ceilinged and spacious restaurant/cafe with a well-stocked bar of the kind you always hope to find in country towns (or anywhere, really)

The wine list though not lengthy spoke of a management/ownership which knew its stuff.

Service was neither hurried nor tardy and the menu (breakfast, brunch and lunch at this time of day) gave us enough to choose from without the usual starch fillers; burger buns and chips. So far, so promising.

The men enjoyed pints and tall chilled glasses of tap ale and lagers. The women were equally well catered for.

The food, of uniformly good quality, well-cooked and seasoned and well-presented, arrived and was enjoyed by everyone. In particular we all spoke very highly of the desserts and the coffee.

An easy atmosphere prevailed. Not least, a long suffering employee cheerfully agreed to record the occasion on camera for several of us. What more could you want!
