“Great View worth the walk”
Reviewed 9 February 2013

It's quite a nice walk up here about 3km round trip from the switch back. (before it gets really really steep) You can start lower if you want a bit more of a leg stretch.

So this walk is to the top of the peninsula behind Sokehs rock. When you finish the steep climb you will see a few buildings. If you turn right and continue up the path you will get to the top of the mountain where the radio towers are.

To see the Japanese Guns, when you get to the buildings go straight or slightly to the left. There are two guns, just be careful walking around them as the ground can be muddy and there are a few holes. Also be careful looking into any of the dug out caverns in the walls because there are a few bats around too.

“Nice view, hike can be muddy”
Reviewed 10 December 2012

Family of four with two small children. We did this hike as part of a "land tour" from The Village Hotel, with several other hotel guests. The hike is about a 10-minute drive from Kolonia.
The hike started at the base of a steep jeep trail which cuts up the side of Sokehs Ridge. If you had a decent 4x4 vehicle, and it hadn't rained recently, you could probably drive all the way to the top. It had rained heavily the previous night, so this was not an option for us.
At the top of the road (20-30 minutes) are two WWII Japanese gun batteries a short way back in the jungle. They will be familiar to anyone who has seen similar emplacements throughout the Pacific region.
The hike continued for another 20-30 minutes along a flat jeep trail that runs along the ridge. Again, a jeep or decent SUV could probably handle it. This road was flooded and very muddy during. We were wearing flip-flops (perhaps not the best footwear choice), and they got stuck in the mud a few times.
The hike ends at a WWII Japanese observation point, where a cell tower is now located. From this point, you have a great view of the airport, harbor, and Sokehs Rock. The Rock itself is inaccessible.
A friend told me that there is another steeper climb up to the same point, with some vertical scaling involved. This would not have worked for our group, but more intrepid travelers might enjoy the challenge. Some of the other reviews in this section refer to it.

Steep climb but every step is rewarded 1000X when you get to the top. Amazing views from up there. Cool WWII Japanese guns that are also very interesting to see. It's something that you really have to do.

“20 minute drive?”
Reviewed 29 April 2012 via mobile

We took the road that was barely marked "Sokehs" and kept going and going. Through a residential area, through lots of tropical plants, more houses (watch out for dogs or people walking on the road). Maybe 20 minutes before we got to a clearing and could see the views. It was very pretty, I'm not sure if we made it to the end of the road and could have kept going to hike it but we didn't have much time so only took a look at it from below.

“Nice hike”

A bit steep at first but doable for kids and adults. You will see WWII guns in the middle of the jungle and a gorgeous view of Pohnpei harbor down below.
