We had a most enjoyable stay in late June. Staff picked us up from the airport and took us directly to our room. Due to the late hour all the paperwork held till morning. Ate virtually all of our meals at/on the Mnuw ship and didn't miss a happy hour beer from Stone Money Brewing. Dive operation was first class thanks to Nico and Tony. If you are looking for a dive holiday in Yap my suggestion is to stay at the MBR.

Room Tip: We had an Ocean View Deluxe with an outdoor emersion pool which was very nice and spacious.

Bill Acker and his staff of professionals mantra is to do whatever it takes to make sure their guests have a great experience. Bill, saying that he was"humbled" at people spending so much time and treasure to get to "the end of a very long supply chain" personifies his staff's approach to meeting and exceeding our expectations.
A great getaway to forget about the rest of the world!

We have stayed at Manta Ray before in the late 90s and 2003 it has really been ungraded and clearly the staff has been inculcated with a service ethic. The rooms are lovely, the spa and especially the masseuse are wonderful. The food on the "ship" is fresh and well prepared. The local stone money brew under the direction of a Swiss brewmaster is very good. We did not dive this time (medical issues) but when we dived with them in the past we had great dives in beautiful places. Don't miss Yap and if you go stay at Manta Ray.

This was my 3rd visit to Manta Ray Bay Hotel (MRBH). After catching the
usual late night flight from Guam, we were greeted by a cheery staff person
at the Yap airport. Our rooms were ready for us at this late hour with the
paperwork waiting until the next morning. My AC drainage line was plugged
up so there was a large puddle on the floor. The resort resolved this
problem in short order.

With our very late arrival, we took the next day off from diving and
enjoyed the start of the Yap rainy season. Our rooms were spacious with an
private immersion pool outside the patio doors. The rooms are a bit dark
and could use some additional electrical outlets. The water in the rooms is
potable.

We had most of meals in the Mnuw Restaurant, an old sailing vessel from
Indonesia; a very unique dining setting. The food from the restaurant is
pretty average with breakfast being the most savory meal. We ate most
lunches on the dive boat because we opted for the 3 dive package. The
lunches were very forgettable. Dinners were at the Mnuw ordering from a
menu that was mostly pub grub. 3 or 4 specials were offered each night but
they did not seem to vary much from day to day. I usually had the fish
sandwich of rare yellowtail tuna, which was quite good. The restaurant
features Stone Money Brewery Beer that is brewed at the resort. The beer is
tasty but sometimes a bit flat.

The diving is done from skiffs that offer cover, tank holders, lots of dry
storage, towels, water, snacks and camera rinse. Our dive guides were
friendly, helpful and well acquainted with the local reefs. Unfortunately,
our manta encounters were minimal but it wasn't due to lack of trying. We
spent several hours out at the Stamm cleaning station waiting in vain for
the pelagics to appear, but they we no-shows. Apparently, they were
gathering at the cleaning stations on the windward, northeast reef. Due to
the currents and sea conditions, we were only able to dive here on one day;
we did have a great, 25 minute manta encounter. The Vertigo dive site is a
great place for encounters with gray reef and blacktip sharks. We did 3
dives at the Slow and Easy dive site, which is at least 1 dive too many.

The dive crew was flexible and accommodating moving our dive departure time
a bit earlier since we were ready to go at 8:00 am. We had one diver that
had trouble keeping this schedule so the dive shop accommodated all of us
by assigning her to another boat. The dive shop has large rinse tanks for
gear and cameras and a dive gear storage area.

MRBH has a very friendly, easy-going atmosphere that will probably get me
back there for a 4th time. But next time I will not go in the rainy season
(June-September).

Manta Ray Bay Hotel (MRBH) offers diving thru Yap Divers. This dive
operator provides fresh water rinse on the dive skiffs for cameras and has
large, dedicated camera rinse tanks at the dive shop. The camera room is
adequate with work stations, lights, and air. Yap has healthy reefs of
mostly hard corals; the nudibranch photo ops did not seem has plentiful as
previous visits.

Room Tip: Rooms 106 and 107 are premium rooms on the 1st floor with an immersion pool. The building does not h...

This was my second time on Yap. Unfortunately, the weather kept the mantas away, but we still had a pleasant trip. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, helped us to arrange a land tour. The dive shop was tidy and had good places to hang all gear, and the dive staff were fantastic. Very accomodating with specific requests and did their best to deliver the diving we hoped for. The breakfast was tasty and we ate virtually all our meals (and plenty beverages) on the Balinese-ship-turned-restaurant out front.

My only complaint is that I can't be there more often. GREAT service, GREAT guides, GREAT diving. There is no request that is too much for the staff to handle. I've been there twice and can't wait to go again.

I should perhaps begin by saying I and my family are strongly biased towards this hotel - having been there three times already and, thanks to the kindness of the owners, having decided to get married in Yap, which we did in May 31st. But what I must say to fellow travellers here is that over the years the quality of the hotel and its services have only improved. Staying at Manta Ray Bay, diving with the resident manta rays (and sharks, and nudibranchs, and corals, and sharks, etc. etc.), and getting to know the kindness of the Yapese people in the streets is worth the trip from anywhere in the world. I highly recommend it for anyone who loves nature, culture and great accommodation on an island. free of western society´s worries, and I and my Family look forwrad to get back there as soon as feasible!

Room Tip: We loved staying in the ground floor rooms with the private plunge pool facing the bay and the small...
