We used Yap Pacific as a base for our diving. It was comfortable and clean, rooms were large, the view was fine, and the staff was helpful. The hotel was very atmospheric- felt like I was in a Hemingway novel. A great plus is that the hotel is in walking distance to 'town' and to their dive operation. The dive operation was also very good with knowledgeable dive guides/masters and very friendly boat captains- they tried their best to find us a manta! The breakfasts were very good and made to order. We never ate dinner here as they were a bit on the pricey side, but the menu looked excellent. The island tour they set up for us on our no-dive last day was excellent- we opted for a 1/2 day tour, but were given a very extensive tour of everything we wanted to see- a great value!

Although I didn't stay at the resort, I did do some diving with Yap Pacific on a recent trip to Yap. I was traveling with a group of experienced divers and we were fortunate enough to have the boat to ourselves -- the staff gave us a full briefing of the areas around the island and let us choose our sites, then scheduled trips to ensure the best conditions (which were amazing). They were extremely friendly and helpful, and very flexible in meeting our needs (70 minute night dive, anyone?). They even provided drinks and banana bread during the surface interval.

The poolside cafe also has the best coffee in I found in Yap -- all in all, a winner.

I've been traveling many years in Micronesia and I would highly recommend the Yap Pacific Dive Resort if you are coming to Yap. This used to be called Trader's Ridge and always were way too expensive for business travelers like myself. Now under new management, they really are the best deal in Yap! Don't get me wrong, they also offer the best dive services in Yap as well.
To start with, the rooms are large and very comfortable. If you're a business traveler and are getting the government rate, you don't get a room with a great view...but that doesn't matter. The facility is beautifully maintained and the multi-level grounds abound with well manicured tropical plants...very nice indeed.
The staff is amazing. By the second day here, they all recognized me by name and were always accommodating to any needs I had. They also have a nice pool which is well maintained. Remember to ask them to turn on the pumps while you swim...it is sort of like a jacuzzi with the water always 82 degrees.
The room rate included a full breakfast which was very nice. The cook is great offering both local and western food. Really, try the lunch special they have...$5.50 and you can't beat the daily variety which always includes some local food as well.
Another great service this hotel offers is free wireless internet access. Not just in the lobby, but in the rooms as well. I had a great connection while I was here...able to Skype no problem.
I would definitely stay here again! Overall this was what I would call excellent!

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room that has good wireless Internet access if that is important to you. The...

I stayed for a week last april at yap pacific dive resort. it is definitely the best hotel in Yap. It is charming, with a large and beautiful garden. Nice, clean, and large rooms with lovely balconies overlooking the lush garden. Overall very pleasant atmosphere. Staff is very friendly although a bit laid back but it is also probably part of the charm of being on a pacific island...
There is wifi in the rooms (a bit slow though) and it is a plus.
The only area of disappointment would be the food, not as good I found as in other places in Yap.
But overall a very good place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at the Yap Pacific Dive Resort in February/March 2011 and we travelled with a group of friends. We enjoyed it so much we are seriously considering going back in 2013. In fact our friends already went back in 2012! The Hotel is stunning, and the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable...there was free wi-fi which is especially good for keeping in touch with friends and family and sharing pictures of our trip.

The food was excellent and we were told by other visitors to the Hotels restaurant that it was the best on the island (and they learned through bad experiences)! Breakfast was included with our package, and was delicious every day. We had lunch a few times as well which was also up to the same high standard, but we didn't have this every day because we were often still full from breakfast.

We were there for Yap day and we saw the locals celebrating their history and heritage through costume, dance, song and demonstrations...something definitely not to be missed if you are on the island the first week in March.

We also went scuba diving, and this is what makes the island so special, the quality of marine life is breathtaking from Mantas to Sharks to Nudibranches. My husband hasn't stopped talking about the diving since we got back and our 2012 holiday to the Maldives didn't even compare.

In many respects, holidaying in Yap is like stepping back in time and it's so relaxing. The pace of life is slow, and you really start to appreciate life and enjoy the small things. It was the people who worked at the Hotel that turned our holiday from a good holiday to the best holiday experience!

Staff were helpful, relaxed atmosphere. It's a lot more expensive than the other places for the tours, but we had a great time sitting at the bar chatting to the staff and other guests. Jeff the hotel manager also went out of his way to talk to every guest, even stopping us in the street to make sure we weren't lost.

I went diving for the first time with Dieter, made the whole event very simple and relaxed. Didn't have any problems.

If you have problems climbing stairs, you may want to avoid staying here as there are lots of steps to and from the restaurant.
