“Comfortable and Cozy!”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

My husband and I stayed at the "Guest House" the end of August 2013. We found the home very inviting and seeming like an old "farm house" home. It was very comfortable and cozy! While not the typical Bed and Breakfast (BYO Breakfast), there was plenty of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available as well as a kitchenette and dining area in which to prepare your meal. Paula pointed out the many eating establishments in Talkeetna as well as a variety of shops for us to visit. We have formerly managed a B & B in Gustavus, AK, and when staying somewhere tend to look at the cleanliness of the accommodations as well as information given by the manager/owner for things to see and do in an area. We've visited Talkeetna several times but based on Paula's advice, did discover some new galleries, etc to visit. Breakfast at the Roadhouse...is a MUST! The Flying Squirrel Bakery and Cafe, Brewery, Pizza shop, and Nagley's Store are fun stops as well.... So for clean, cozy, good value accommodations, this is a wonderful place to stay...and you are in good hands with Paula as she has many skills, including being an EMT! (Due to having family and many friends in AK, we normally stay at cabins of friends when visiting the area.)

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet as the location of the "Guest House" is on a side street on the edge o...

Yes, this is a guest house, not a B&B, but the location was perfect for us. It's short walk to the restaurants and the river where we were able to see Mt. Foraker, Mt. Hunter, and Mt. McKinley on a clear day!! In addition, Paula was very responsive. She even helped set the bicycles to suit her guests. The room for us had two double beds, but we also had the common rooms to share. The kitchen had all we needed and a fire pit in the gazebo and a grill made for a good place to visit with the other guests. Our children loved the ping pong tables and games Paula has for her guests! We fell in love with Talkeetna!

Room Tip: You have to get in an Alaska mindset to appreciate this. It was a nice, homey place, but our bathroo...

We found this place on line..we are Alaskans who live about an hour south of Talkeetna. The reviews were overrated. We went up for 2days for a wine tasting event. In my attempt to save money and not pay $200 per night at the lodge, we stayed here. Although the hospitality was top notch, most B&Bs offer a continental breakfast. This one was just a house with some rooms to rent. We had the downstairs to ourselves but the room had no ventilation..the window did not open in the bedroom and the smell in that room was horrendous. Now I know why there was an oscillating fan going when we checked in. Once we got to bed (around midnight after dinner and some dancing) the room was foul! I had turned off the fan after checking in...and it smelled like sour milk and old dirty clothes. The sheets on the bed were clean and fresh, the room and area were spotless but the smell never left the room and we tried cologne, perfume, etc. If I turned on the fan and kept the door open (which leads out to a shared kitchen and living room area), the smell faded but as soon as we closed the door, it returned. We booked it for 2 nights and left the following day, paying for both nights without a refund..and adding insult to injury, having to pay double to stay at the Lodge. The owner obviously knew about the issue and tried to mask it with a fan circulating the air and the door open when we arrived. Did she think we wouldn't know?? We joke that there's a dead body buried in the floor boards. If you stay here, don't go in the lower room!

Stayed a the Northern Guest House for 2 nights in early June 2014 before leaving to climb Denali. Paula was responsive, easy to work with and it worked out great for me. The place feels like a home and is very near Alaska Mountaineering School and downtown. Outstanding value in a very nice place to stay.

Room Tip: There are 3 rooms....the one I was in (#3) was very nice and quiet upstairs.

Well we must say this place is very nice, homey feeling. The owner Pam was very understanding about climbers waiting to climb Denali. She is a great source for other things to do. The Ping pong was great. If your here you should check this place out

Our group completely filled the beds (10) and it was a great place to be. Homey, with everything one needs to be comfortable. 4 beds downstairs, the rest are up a spiral staircase. Location is right in the heart of Talkeetna so can walk to most places you would want to visit in town. Kitchen that allowed us to cook for the whole group.
Incredibly accommodating owner

Stayed here to get some work done and rest. The room upstairs was charming but would not recommend the upstairs rooms for anyone nervous about an open spiral staircase. I love the little windows that I could open for fresh air. The bathrooms are not attached to the rooms but are private and perfectly fine. Having a kitchen was grand, so I could make some meals and warm up left-overs. I like the idea of a dog friendly place to stay but would be certain to get a downstairs room if I brought a dog. Close to town but not on mainstreet so the location is perfect. I would stay here again. My only suggestion is a less white table cloth on the table -- lovely but made clumsy me just too daunted to use the table.
