Wow what a panoramic view of the Denali range! Hotel is very nice with large rooms and great gathering areas. But who cares about the room and the hotel when you can stand outside and stare, oh and you will.

Room Tip: go the extra and get the room with a view and that way you will not be standing outside at midnight...

There are lots of places to stay in Talkeetna area, but this hotel and grounds are quite outstanding. Staff is very helpful with making & confirming reservations for the multitude of activities nearby. Rooms are spacious and quiet. Fireplace lounge very comfortable at the end of a busy day. Some things to know: the hotel is a stop-over for many cruises/tours. It is a large hotel, so don't expect a boutique feeling. Take care on paved walk ways (we were barely missed by a hotel golf cart delivering luggage to an outer building (X3 !). Wake up call not done on first morning (many apologies from desk clerk). TV & internet in all rooms. Lots of walking paths on property, but like other reviewers signs posted noting bear & moose sightings put us off exploring.
[I also reviewed the Bistro Cafe (restaurant within the hotel). Kind of a hit or miss, depending on what you order.]

Room Tip: I cannot imagine any room that was less than satisfactory. Beautiful setting and grounds. If you ar...

Stayed here on the way to Denali & had a lovely view of the river from my balcony. Room was quiet & well equipped. We walked around to the back of the hotel & found a great path for a lovely walk, although on return noted a bear had been on property & the huge amount of fresh moose droppings makes me think it would be quite possible to run into one.
Service & food in the upscale restaurant was excellent. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here as part of a Royal Caribbean cruise/tour. Beautiful property in a quiet location, lovely rooms, and spectacular views. Beautiful sitting areas with big fireplaces. Unfortunately we couldn't see Denali during our visit, but the view was still beautiful. Be forewarned that the woods around the lodge have monster mosquitoes, and a couple on our tour saw bear on their walk. Food was OK, but quite pricey. Waiters seemed more interested in talking to each other than keeping an eye on their customers. One gal was trying to take care of all the tables, while 3 other staff were talking in another language among themselves. There are nice laundry facilities in the lodge. We'd already been on vacation 2 weeks so we were grateful to get our laundry done.

Sadly we only stayed 1 night here - its a majestic lodge in a beautiful place. The public areas are spacious and special with the mountain views and huge fireplaces. We enjoyed our food and room and would always stay here if ever in the area. This review is particularly enthusiastic as I left my mobile phone there and the staff found it and sent it back to me in England for very little cost. Such honesty and effort deserves a special mention - a huge thank you to those involved.

My fiance and I took our first trip to Talkeetna on the 4th of July and stopped at the lodge at the end of the day to admire the view of Denali and have a cocktail on the restaurant patio. We were immediately impressed by the property, but were totally ignored when we walked in the door and looked for the restaurant. Once we found it, we were told to wait to be seated and then ignored for at least 10 minutes. Several restaurant employees walked right by us (and/or just stood there and did nothing). We were finally seated, but then had to wait 10 more minutes just for water and about another 5 for our drinks. We sat there with empty cups for 10 minutes after finishing our drinks before anyone even noticed, so we paid our tab and left. I hope the people that stay at the lodge are served better than we were, although we noticed several other tables of people waiting for attention...

Can be very expensive for the lodge room with a view in season, but if you can afford it, get this type of room. The rooms and lodge were beautiful, grounds immaculate, nice staff with hiking trails and bike trails. There are many room types, some in the lodge, some not and some with views and some not. Skip the restaurant and take the shuttle or drive (2 minutes) to town. There you will find excellent food and drink and a very colorful town. 2 hour drive to Denali and Anchorage.
