Everyone has the crab or a burger! Halibut fish and chips was the best we've had- crunchy outside, firm fish inside. We are all the crab legs but mine done at home in beer and lemon are better! They are frozen just like you get anywhere since the fresh season is winter.
Service was excellent and a fun place to go

We overnighted in Talkeetna after taking the Hurricane Turn Train and had asked where the locals ate. The West Rib Pub and Grill was highly recommended. When we first walked into the bar we didn't realize where the restaurant was. We were looking around and the bartender asked us brusquely if there was was something she could help us with. We said that we were looking for the dining room and she directed a waitress to seat us. As we were seated the waitress sighed heavily and asked where were were from. I stated I was from Anchorage and that the restaurant came highly recommended. She made no comment other than someone would be with us shortly. A waiter soon appeared and he was much friendly than the other two employees. He explained the specials, went over the beer menu and gave us a few minutes to decide.

My dining partner went for the crab legs and I had the halibut tacos. The restaurant states that their seafood is flown in fresh and never frozen so that was a big selling point for both of us. My halibut tacos were great however, my dining partner's dinner was mostly french fries with a side of crab legs. Kind of a disappointment since it was advertised as being 1 1/2 pounds of crab.

Also disappointing was my dining partner being served warm flat beer. We ordered another round to have with dinner, and when our beers were brought out, his looked like it had been sitting on the bar for sometime. Mine looked and tasted like a beer should. When we caught our waiters attention - he had dropped the beers off then walked away - my dining partner asked the waiter if he would drink the beer he had been served. The waiter admitted that no, he wouldn't drink it and he would get him another. We were the only ones in the dining room so it wasn't as if the waiter was in a rush. The waiter quickly brought him another beer and it was as it should have been.

We're not too sure if the folks at the West Rib just were already tired of the tourists or were just having a bad night. We had been looking forward to dinner there and left sadly disappointed.

This was a great place to eat a 1 1/2 lb. king crab meal, served with slaw and fries for $24.00,and washed down with an Alaskan Amber. The restaurant is not much to look at from the outside, but this is the home of the town mayor, a cat. The walls are covered with photos of friends and climbers who have or tried to summit the mountain. In case you did not know Talkeetna is the place climbers fly up to summit the mountain. There is a lot of choice on the menu and judging by other reviews, also tasty.
