Alpaca Cabins

Stayed here one night after the Swiss Alaska Inn had overbooked. The cabins are in a very peaceful setting overlooking the lake and are about 5 miles out of town
There is a double bedroom and a loft bedroom ( due to the very steep ladder this would only be suitable for teenagers/ young adults). the lounge/kitchen area overlooks the lake. The host provided teh basics for breakfast which was appreciated

Room Tip: You will need a car if you are staying here

We only got to stay 1 night, but loved the cabin. If you're looking for quiet, private and a really nice cabin then this is it. There are only 2 rental cabins on the property so you wont have much company which is perfect. The owner's cabin is about 100 yards or so away and is hidden by trees. The rental cabin would easily sleep 5-6 people. It has a separate bedroom w/ a Queen, a loft area with a double and a pull out sofa in the living room. It also has a small kitchen area and of course a bathroom w/ shower. It was very clean and neat, it almost seemed brand new. The owner came and talked to us for a few minutes and she was very pleasant in telling how she ended up in Talkeetna. It has a nice porch that overlooks a lovely lake. Each cabin also has a charcoal grill that you can use to cook your own meals, which we did. The cabin is about 8 miles off the Parks highway on the way into the town of Talkeetna (Talkeetna is about 16 miles off the highway). I would highly recommend this cabin. It was the best cabin out of the 3 we stayed in on our trip to AK!

We stayed at the Alpaca Cabins for two nights at the end of July and loved it. We were in the first cabin and it was positively spotless in how clean and tidy it was. The breakfast eats (and tea and coffee) provided were terrific, the little kitchen is super convenient, the master bed was exceptionally cozy and comforatble (flannel sheets!) and the loft was a big hit with our kid. We also loved the peaceful location by a lake and outside Talkeetna, which can be full of tour buses and RVs. Hanging on the porch was a nice way to end the day. We would absolutely recommend the cabins and hope to come back on our next trip to Alaska.

We absolutely loved this quiet, beautiful place! The cabins are nestled in the woods by a lake, are very private and surrounded by beautiful nature. The cabins are clean, modern, and have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The owner is friendly and caring. We would love to go back and spend more time at the Alpaca Cabin.

The last review was in 2008 but I can tell you that the cabin hasn't aged! The cabin is so well kept - clean, cosy and well equipped with heater, refrigerator, microwave and basic kitchen utensils. My family of 4 sleeps comfortably in it. We were initially worried about being cutoff from the external world without Internet or TV. But the experience was so good and cabin so cosy that we soon forgot about our usual habits and spent quality family time in the cabin. The cabin also overlooks the lake. The environment is serene. The owner also makes you feel so welcome. What a perfect cabin stay for a first timer! The only con is that the place is not within walking distance to town but if you have a car, this will not be an issue.

I must admit that I was a tad bit worried about this reservation but upon our arrival at 1:00 AM, I was so glad that I had chosen this warm and inviting cabin. The cabin itself was absolutely perfect. The warm flannel sheets were just the ticket after driving from Anchorage in the middle of the night. The cabin was comfortably furnished, a great breakfast was there to eat when we wanted it without a schedule, and the setting was what we came to Alaska for.

Fresh muffins in the morning sitting on the porch watching the lake was just perfect. Don't miss out on this tiny jewel in such a large wilderness.

I call this place "My Cabin" because the owner makes you feel right at home. The cabins are spacious and tucked away in the trees for the real Alaskan experience, other than roughing it. While traveling a huge state like Alaska, it is nice to stay at a place where you can listen to the loons at dusk and drift off under comfy covers. Then after a nice QUIET nights' rest, you can have breakfast with coffee or tea in your own private space overlooking a scenic pond.
