We visited the Susitna River Lodge on our visit up to Talkeetna on November 21, 10. We were on a family trip with my whole family. Husband Jason, daughter Emma who is 8 years old, mother Susan and brother Jeff. Some of us had experience snow machining and some of us did not. Mr. Hunter went over everything we needed to know and made an extra point to make sure everyone was comfortable and safe. They also had extra coats, gloves, hats and what ever else we may have needed or forgot. They truly did think of everything. He went out of his way to make sure my daughter Emma was situated, warm and okay with everything on the ride. Half way thru the run we all stopped at the top of the mountain for some absolutely AMAZING views and hot chocolate. He entertained us answering questions we had and sharing his love of Alaska, he even took a few pictures for our family scrapbook for us. At another stop along the way my daughter Emma was getting a little chilly. He did not hesitate to pull off her shoes and start to rub her feet warm as if she was his own. He was even so prepared as to bring those little heated packets and put them in her shoes to make sure her feet stayed warm and cozy.
Once we returned to the cabin, Mrs. Darlene saw that Emma was cold and immediately grabbed a heated corn sac, a blanket and some hot coco and set her by the fire and warmed her feet just as Mr. Howard did. It was the sweetest thing! Even Emma had said, “They are the nicest people ever!”
I truly appreciate the hospitality and warm, caring, comfortable experience the Hunters provided and will absolutely return to not only snow machine with them again, but to stay in their rented cabins. we did not stay there, but were only there this trip for the snow machining. They showed us around and completely made us feel at home and I look forward to making it up there to see them again. AMAZING views, wonderful company and a cozy atmosphere.

Loved Talkeetna and loved the Susitna River Lodge. We stayed in the main lodge in very comfortable accommodation with well fitted out kitchenette and balcony looking straight out to the River. Bed was extremely comfortable. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again. We prepared our own breakfast, but had a wonderful surprise when we went into the common area to find a table all set up with fruit juices and beautiful muffins. As we had already eaten breakfast, we did juice and muffins 'to go'. They made a great morning tea on the road. Great place to stay!

The Susitna River Lodging was our half way point lodging between getting off a late evening plane in Anchorage and getting to Denali in time for a noon bus ride into the park. We had one of the large rooms in the main house that had a queen bed downstairs and two twins in the loft area so it fit our family of 4 perfectly and economically. The environment was clean and comfortable without being high end. However the hosts were of the highest quality. Such nice, welcoming people. We stayed with them a second time after leaving Denali and had an equally enjoyable time and this time we got to experience Talkeetna. Great town!!!!

This place is very well laid out with rooms in the main bldg but also cabins. We had a room just over the lobby- a little noise in close quarters. The grounds are well kept and this is where the character of the place lies: a porch, a nice mosquito netted gazebo with sitting area surrounding an open fireplace and place for grilling. The river in your backyard

My husband and I stayed here one night, on our way driving north to Denali Park. We were in the log cabin #4. It's a beautiful cabin, relatively new, packed with many amenities...a gas fireplace, fully stocked kitchenette and grill outside. There are no phones or TV's in the cabin, but that makes it perfect as a get-a-way from the hustle & bustle of life. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the deck overlooking the river. Mt McKinley was not cooperating behind clouds, otherwise it would have had a magnificent view of the mountain. The grounds and facilities are immaculate & clean. Darlene is a very caring hostess. It's a 10 or 15 minute pleasant walk along the road into the historic downtown. They offer some muffins, juice & coffee in the main house/office for breakfast. But when in Talkeetna,(we skipped Darlene's offerings) I recommend to eat at the Roadhouse for their famous great breakfasts. We wished we 'd had more time to relax and stay here longer.

This is my fourth trip to Alaska. I have stayed at many of the resorts, but this lodge is the best of the best. It is off the road and is quiet and peaceful. The property is along the the river and the views are great; and, if the weather coperates, you can see Mt. McKinley on a good day. It is a 10 minute walk to town and several of the other major attractions. However, the charm, staff, atmosphere makes this a special place. The rooms are modern, clean and roomy. If you have a family make sure you request a cabin on the outside of the lodge. They are great for families with children. The breakfast includes a variety of huge muffins, ceral, juice, apple sauce and other goodies. This is a great location and one of the best values in the Talkeetna area.

My wife, brother-in-law, and friend stayed here for three nights during our recent two-week cruise and land tours in Alaska. We had just finished our RSSC cruise and stayed at the Susitna River Lodges as our "homebase" for our flightseeing to Mt. McKinley and tours of Denali National Park. You could not ask for a more idyllic spot to spend time in the Denali area. We stayed in two of the cabins (#1 & 2)...they had all the conveniences of home: a kitchen and dining area with microwave, refrigerator, coffee-maker, burner, and dish/silver-ware to accommodate any cooking needs, and comfortable beds, besides the other amenities you'd find in most hotels. The owners personally picked us up at the Alaska RR Stn. in Talkeetna (a lively little town with great restaurants!). Breakfast was provided at the office, and the owners' washers and dryers were available for us to use. They also let us borrow their personal PC to access the internet. The lodges are located right next to the Susitna River (magnificent views from our 'front' windows) and within a walking-distance half-mile from the Main Street and most of the transportation services (train, airport) and activity sites (Mahay Jetboat Tours, e.g.). We had a great stay!
