My husband and I enjoyed 12 days here celebrating our 30th anniversary. Everything you see and read about this bungalow is exactly what you get and the sunsets were amazing. It was so peaceful and quiet, it was tough to leave. Nir, the manager, was always available to take care of any problems and all were quickly resolved. Having an "island phone" was the best. We were able to make dinner reservations and schedule excursions on our own. We also rented a car thru Nir which allowed us to travel around the island for half the price the rental agencies were charging.

Richard, thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us and Nir, thank you for everything!

“Paradise!”

Absolutely loved, loved, loved this place and the island of Bora Bora. I was hesitant at first sending payment to someone in California for a rental international, but it was safe. The correspondence and payment transaction was easy and timely. When you step off the plane in Bora Bora you are absolutely in paradise with screen saver shots everywhere. We chose the overwater bungalows because we did not want the resort style or prices. We rented a car from Nir who is your contact once you arrive in Bora Bora. Nir was at the dock when we arrived on the island and had everything set up for us. Everything was exactly how the owner states in their description. The phone provided by Nir is great and helped us out when I had to call the restaurants and excursions on the island. The bungalow was beautiful and very spacious. We used the gas grill for dinner a couple of nights for dinner, bought a homemade Pizza and chicken at a roulette a couple of nights, and Bloody Mary's a couple of nights and the microwave and toaster oven came in handy too. We snorkeled in front of our bungalow every morning and afternoon and fed the fish every morning and evening with the bread we purchased at the local store. The price of food in very high but manageable. If you like doing things on your own and not being bothered by anybody this is the place to go and relax. We will be back to stay again in the bungalow and hopefully one day be able to retire in Bora Bora.

“Beautiful Bora Bora”

My husband and I stayed here for a week in March. Everything was made very easy with Nir meeting us at the airport pier with the keys and the car rental. It is a bit removed from the stores and shopping so I would say the car rental is a necessary expense. Nir was quick to answer our calls with any questions we had and lined up some scuba diving for us. The bungalow is very beautiful and it was amazing to jump in for a swim whenever you felt like it. The snorkelling is good right off the deck, we saw a few octopus and lots of other fish. We did the majority of our meals at the bungalow and felt the kitchen was fully equipped for all our needs.
Having the car to drive all the way around the island was great. There are many beautiful places to stop and take photos that would be missed if you were staying on the motus or without the car rental. Thanks for the great hospitality Nir and Richard!!

“Absolutely Fabulous”

We were going to be in French Polynesia for a one week catamaran trip and decided that we needed to extend out trip to maximize our airfare expense. We wanted to stay in Bora Bora over the water, but gagged at the $1,000-$1,200 per night expense of most better resorts. Then, on VRBO we found Brando (It's brother, Marlon, would have been just as good). Less than $400 a night. Too good to be true??? Absolutely not. A few miles north of Vaitape, well outside of the tourist zone, we found heaven.

Built by Marlon Brando shortly after he filmed "Mutiny on the Bounty" and since sold to a movie producer who rents them out, these two overwater bungalows are close to perfect. Large--they have two bedrooms, a kitchen with a full size refrigerator, washer/dryer, stove top and everything you could want, dining area, large living area, and a huge open air porch with a table and chairs, day bed, two chaise lounges and a private entrance to the lagoon where you can snorkel right off the house. The main bedroom is air conditioned and the shower in the bathroom is huge. Provided are snorkeling equipment, fishing equipment (we left a selection of lures as our "gift" to the house) tubes for floating, etc.

You need a car. Rent it from the property manager. He will give you a better car for less than the car rental agencies. Shop at Chen Li's or the other grocery store in town . Feel like a local. Eat at the restaurants in Vaitape, not the tourist ones on the south end. This is where the locals and the expats eat, not the high end tourists. Our favorite was the Bora Bora Yacht Club, but Mai Kai and Restaurant St. James were also excellent.

I cannot recommend Brando too highly. We had a modest plumbing problem midway through the week. We called the manager and a repairman was there within an hour and the problem was fixed immediately. Unbelievable! This is heaven at an affordable (Hell, its a steal!) price.

“Very nice place”

Very nice place. It's not on the fun side of the island, so there are no restaurants around and getting anywhere is kind of a pain if you want to go out.
However, there is a kitchen, ac, laundry, and a great bathroom so you can be self-sufficient pretty easily.
Being on the beach without dealing with sand is awesome. Snorkling in front is pretty nice and there is even some equipement for smaller people. You'll see clown fish, rays, mooray eels, ... . There is quite a bit of trash around the coral and I did clean some of it off but I wish someone would pay more attention to that. That part can sometimes lead to the the beach underwater world looking like Thailand's which is close to dead.
Not having kayaks or a boat are my main pains considering there is quite a bit of boat traffic not too far out, which makes being in the water dangerous, which is why I'm only giving 4 out of 5.
That said, I would definitely stay here again.

“Affordable Bora Bora? It's absolutely possible! Wonderful location!”
Reviewed 29 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

My girlfriend and I stayed here for one week in the middle of September and we were already talking about how we definitely wanted to return before we even left! Allow me to explain: from the very beginning, email contact with the owner (Richard Holland) was extremely prompt and helpful. I was hesitant about mailing a check, but everything about the transaction/reservation process was wonderfully smooth.

Nir met us at the main dock in Vaitape and provided us with the keys, car and very helpful local cell phone. After that, it was off for the trip of a lifetime. The bungalow is exactly as described and shown in the pictures, and perfect for the person that prefers a bit of a more "home" type setting, rather than a sterile hotel room.

The kitchen, washer/dryer and bathrooms are all modern and easy to use. I'm going to miss that waterfall shower head! (I'm stuck with those lame Calif. water saving shower heads...) The grill is a gas Weber and cooked our fresh Mahi Mahi steaks quickly and easily, and the lounges on the back deck were comfortable and the perfect place to sit and enjoy the view. We loved feeding the beautiful fish right off our own back deck!

It was great to have a car to be able to explore the island or get supplies/food at our own leisure. The bungalow is about 15-20 mins from the main town or any grocery stores, so you do need the car as others have said, but having the freedom to come and go as we pleased was well worth it.

I knew Bora had the potential to be ridiculously expensive, but this is a wonderful way to circumvent that. We are the type of people that get sick of eating out every meal (which after doing hotel research will set you back roughly 30/50/100 USD for breakfast/lunch/dinner, respectively) and would rather eat a few simple meals at home and splurge on a nicer lunch or dinner once a day. Huge cost savings in food alone by having a kitchen and being situated on the main island (no water taxi fees). Besides, it was wonderful to enjoy a relaxing meal on the back porch.

I also felt the bungalow had more privacy and much more of an authentic island experience versus staying at one of the isolated motu hotel bungalows. We really felt like we were the only people in the area, which makes it feel even more special. The living room furniture could use some updating, but we were always out on the deck so it didn't matter. The guest room might a get a bit warm since there's no a/c, but we didn't bring guests, so also not an issue. Oh yeah, a few more utensils would be nice. Bottom line, if you want to experience Bora Bora, and don't need to be pampered every step of the way, this is a fantastic way to do so.

One thing I was slightly concerned about was the potential to miss out on that "special Bora Bora light blue" tropical water color at this location versus one of those disastrously pricey hotel overwater bungalows. I've never been so happy to be wrong. The view out the back porch is something I will NEVER forget. I tried to take pictures, but they just don't do it justice. For a better idea of what I'm talking about, check out some pictures here: http://bit.ly/1pCwAkP

Thank you Richard and Nir for a trip we will never forget!! It was a pleasure to work with you both!

“Exactly as described....perfect for 2 couples”

The Brando OWB was exactly as described. Perfect for the 2 married couples in our group. The gas BBQ on the deck was used daily. Nice to go shopping at the 2 main markets on BB...a big money saver vs. eating out. Took the shark, ray, motu/lunch and lagoon tour with Rapa and Mahana....good guys. Cost was 70,000 CFP for 4. Wife and I also did the intro scuba dive at Bora diving center....16,000 CFP for 2. Richard was easy to deal/book with and Nir was always there to answer our questions and book excursions. Nir's car is a tight fit for 4 adults with luggage, but manageable for the short distance to the OWB. The island is small....which is good because gas is about $7.75/gal US. The cell phone provided was good for getting to Nir instantly when needed. The only thing I could suggest to make this place even better would be a fan in the master bedroom when the A/C is not needed, but also adding an A/C in the second bedroom....it does have a small fan however. This time of year...June...the weather was not too hot, but in Dec-March...it could be a different story. We certainly would have no concerns about staying here again. Much better than an OWB resort experience...and way less expensive as well.
