We booked a pick up from the airport however on arrival the hotel rep. told us that it was more economical to take the Air Tahiti ferry and that she would arrange for a taxi to meet us at the jetty. The taxi fare was then 2500 CHF compared to 9000 per person on the hotel boat. We were well greeted and attended to at check-in. We arrived at the hotel at 930 am and were shown to our room by 11am even though the check in is normally at 2pm. We stayed in room 60 a lagoon front room . Most of the room is overwater and there is "one step" access to the water. Beneath the rooms there was fantastic fish life and this continued at the multiple reef sites around the hotel. We snorkelled further into the lagoon and saw sting rays, spotted eagle rays and green sea turtle. The room itself was spacious and comfortable king size bed. Air conditioning and ceiling fans fitted.A great deck for relaxing and watching the day go by. Free snorkelling equipment and kayaks available . The hotel also caterers for young children and the beach area makes it safe for them to play and swim. We were spoilt with treats to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary and my husband's birthday. The dinner buffet with traditional Polynesian dancers was a good night although very pricey. Breakfast buffet was large with food choices for most nationalities. The alcarte menu was also expensive for dinner but the location of the hotel meant it was an easy stroll to other less expensive restaurants a bonus compared to the "motu" hotels like Le Meredien, Four Seasons etc. at which you would be stuck eating "in house". A small negative in paradise was that the local roosters made noise all day long from early in the morning however with the air conditioning going in the room they did not wake us up.
All the staff were friendly, attentive and very accommodating. Overall a great place to stay for romance and recharging your batteries.

Room Tip: Lagoon view rooms great without overwater price. Room 61 is the pick but 60 also was great.

Thank you for your comment. The idea of having our Sofitel private boat for a beautiful ride of 20 mn between the airport located at the north of the island to our Sofitel down the south is to start your stay with a magnifique experience, riing the lagoon of Bora Bora, not worry about luggage transferts, finding a taxi and to arrive directly at the private pontoon of the hotel.
Our bar and restaurants provide different " a la carte menu" at all different price range and i'm happy to announce that oven pizza is now available right on the beach and swimming pool for a great pizza or BBQ time !!
Magnifique traditional polynesian shows are available three time a week and make your culinary experience with our Asian or BBQ buffet a unique and authentic experience.
all our Sofitel "Ambassadors" thank you for your great comments regarding our service!
Thank you for choosing Sofitel for your Bora Bora journey.

I travelled there in July 2014 and I was disappointed with the place.

First of all, for the 2 days that we spent there, there was a house across the street from the hotel which played very loud music pretty much the whole day and the whole night. I complained to the reception twice, but the loud music continued. When I read about the hotel location, I wasn't happy because I thought it would be the cars/motorcycles that might bother me. I was wrong. It was music, music and more music with heavy bass. The hotel management claimed that it happens rarely. Well... it happened the 2 days when I was there and it ruined my Bora Bora experience. I really thought this was supposed to be paradise.

Other negative experiences included:
- our phone did not work externally. I went to the reception and they said that they cannot unlock the line - whatever that means.
- we didn't have bath robes in our room
- the cleaning of the room was poorly done. The cleaning lady didn't even bother to take out the trash from the balcony and the coffee cups were not washed. Also, there was still hair in the shower.
- our bill was wrong. They charged us for going to the Heiva festival when we expressed no interest to do so.
- the Activities person was very pushy to sign up for their programs. She was unhelpful with accommodating activities not provided by the hotel.

I guess the positive thing is that we complained about the loud music and we got a late check-out. However, that can't compensate for 2 days of our vacations being ruined. That's the only reason for giving this a 1 star review. Otherwise, when you consider the value, this deserves no stars. I really wish the hotel management can get it together. When you pay so much money, you really expect at the least something decent.

Dear guest,
i saw you personnaly after the neibourghood made that music on that 1st night. action has been taken on the day after to avoid the problem to occur again. As you know that was exceptional and I understand that this night cannot be back to you and time is very precious...... I am really sorry for this "outside interference" in our operation and made sure that you could be compaseted for this unecceptable situation. Today the security is really aware about the situation to handle it properly. You can be confident the problem has been solve.
Thank you for your stay with us and i really hope all what has been done before your departure and the way the problem has been handled will make you confident in our brand and in our hotel.

We stayed at the Sofitel. It is a good hotel, even if you stay at the "garden view" rooms; they are well appointed, clean and nice. Watch your bill at departure. I don't think a lot of people pay attention to their final bill when you expect to pay a lot of money, but for example they charged me 4 airport-hotel transfers on the first day instead of one. Food is ok, the best being lunch from the bar menu. The buffet at night is expensive and not a lot of options, and there is a show every night in front of the pool where the restaurant tables are set at night, which is also in front of the ocean. There are several small places to eat within walking distance. They do not have as many amenities as the more expensive intercontinental next door, but you can still get a free kayak and snorkeling equipment to go to the private island, where there is a reef that is very much alive. It's worth it! I have never seen so many fish and so many colors in one place.
People are nice, all the managers want to try to help you and there is always someone to talk to if you need a taxi or book events around the island. The gym is not well equipped if you are into that type of exercise, but you can certainly get your workout done by running to the village (about 5 miles), biking around the island (there are 3 bike rental places within walking distance), or going swimming or kayaking to the private island. Definitely a romantic destination.

Room Tip: We were not on the water bungalows, but I saw one inside and they are very nice, especially the ones...

This hotel was great, we were made to feel special by Anita Roihau who met us off the boat. We have to say that Anita went out of her way to help us. We upgraded to the overwater bungalow for the first 2 nights, and it was definitely worth it. All of the bar staff were very friendly as well, and even the manager, Didier stopped to say hello every time he saw us. The rooms were clean as expected, and the pool was good, if not the biggest pool, but there are lots of good snorkelling opportunities off the jetty. The location is good, with a couple of supermarkets close by. The only gripe we had was that the restaurant menu didn't change in all 7 days we were there. The food was good, but it would have been nice to vary the menu a little. The excursions offered are also very good, I recommend kite surfing and the Eco tour, which offers great opportunities to swim in the open sea with lemon sharks. Take a trip to Bloody Mary's restaurant, who pick up and drop off for free, and the meal is excellent. Overall we loved this hotel, and would definitely return. We even got a free bottle of expensive champagne....twice!! When we asked about it, we were just told not to ask any questions...we wouldn't be charged for it!! How's that for service. I've said it before, but the best hotel service we've ever seen was from Anita, she really excelled herself for us. Other thanks are for Fran, who tended to all our needs in the restaurant, Pipi at the bar, who makes great cocktails, and Tarou who is the most laid back guy you will ever meet. Thanks for making our holiday a great one, hope to see you again. Maruru.

When we were there, there were many kids (from the way they were treated they seemed family of the staff) shouting and splashing water all around in the pool area. No one in the hotel told them anything so it lasted for hours

Thank you for your comments, on Mother day or on special sunday brunch entertained with local band to retrace the old time ambiance in Bora Bora, mainly on sunday we are happy to welcome our local people with their familly and kids. Sofitel Marara Beach is the place to enjoy the share of he local culture with life, entertaintment and singers with a lot of activities. That is the reason why to satisfy all our guest we also propose Sofitel Private island which is extremely exclusive. this Sofitel hotel is 3 mn away from the Marara Beach Resort, more family oriented and both options are available at Sofitel Bora Bora.

We stayed the last week of June 2014. Fantastic welcome by Anita when we arrived, followed by a lovely introduction to the resort and check in. We were given another room to use until our room was ready as we had arrived early. Really unexpected and a nice touch. Our over the water bungalow was fantastic and I would recommend everyone to book one if you can (the garden room we saw was nice and tidy also but nothing could beat being able to swim immediately off your deck). Nice private deck area on the bungalow to lie in the sun or just relax.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Definitely want to go back again!
Only slight negative was the air conditioner in the room was very loud - either turn it off at night (and open all the rooms shutters - don't forget insect repellent) or bring ear plugs if you want to sleep with it on.

Room Tip: Choose an overwater bungalow. Its worth it.

We stayed here for about 5 days in May 2014. We booked the half overwater bungalow.
Looking at the price difference between full overwater and half overwater I would advice to go for the half overwater; most of the full overwater did not have a better view than our bungalow.
Service of staff is great, and location of the resort is good (there is small supermarket close and also some restaurants (restaurants do free pcikup).

They do charge for wifi (how annoying is that in 2014) but if you become a member of the accorr club it is for free.

We booked a lagun tour through the hotel, and that was fantasic. This included swimming with rays and sharks, and we had a great time. Our tour guide was called Ray and he was fantastic. Would advice going with him.

I did get the feeling in the hotel that they charge for everything and not at a cheap rate. The picking up from the airport is a perfect example; you need it and that is how they priced it. I know this is what all hotel do, but don't like that.

Still had a great time there.

Thank you for your great comment regarding our "ambassador's service " and for your appreciation on our great location. Our boat shuttle from the airport is a service which is offered by Sofitel to come from up north of the island where is located the airport down to the south where is located the Sofitel, it is a half circle island tour of 20 mn trip. The choice is to take the air Tahiti transfert to Vaitape and then a taxi to come over to the hotel, so there is a alternative but the direct trabnsfert is such a great and convenient start to start your experience at Bora Bora! Thank you for your stay at Sofitel!
