“Honeymoon perfection!”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Our visit to the Four Seasons Bora Bora was in one word....perfect. We started our honeymoon here and it was everything we dreamed of and more. Our every need was anticipated and met with hospitality and a smile. Our overwater bungalow was enchanting and peaceful. The whole resort seemed peaceful and quiet despite there were quite a few travelers. The food was fantastic!

Hanging out at the beach or pool was full of unexpected surprises....fresh ice water without asking, cool slushies, and ice cold wash clothes.... All so resfreshing.

The rooms are amazing! The views of the water & Mt. Otemanu are breathtaking. The rooms are quite large, the bathrooms are deliciously decadent, and the view through the floors is entertaining.

I literally shed a tear when it was time to leave. We'll be back again. It was worth all the travel to get there.

Room Tip: Any of the overwater bungalows are terrific.

We stayed at the Hilton for the first 3 nights and last 4 at the Four Seasons. It was a nice split because we were able to have a view of 2 different sides of the island. Words cannot describe how incredible this trip was. It was convenient that the Hilton was only 5 min. from town, but on everything else, the Four Seasons has them beat (not that the Hilton was an awful property by any means!). Anthony was excellent during our tour upon arrival and our debrief at departure. Andrew in concierge was a MAJOR help throughout the visit as well. He made everything so painless and always willing to help. My wife got sick towards the end of the trip and we had to cancel our couple's massage very last minute. Andrew was able to handle it all. The absolute incredible part is that everyone asked us how she was doing (the spa called and left a message, Andrew would check up on us those next couple of days, and even one of the managers or front desk clerks asked her status when we were departing!!). It was excellent. Your resort (and other company locations) really have the customer service game down to an art. Thanks again!

Maruuru,
Jordan

Room Tip: Overwater bungalow facing the mountain if you can.

This was out second stop. We stayed in Moorea first (great times) and then we arrived in Paradise. The view from the aircraft speaks volumes (sit on the left side for best pics - breath taking). Our arrival was met by a first class antique appearing but polished boat. Concierge / reception = 1st class. Since we stepped foot on the resort everyone knew our names. The rooms are impeccable, comfortable, clean, luxurious. I can go on and on. Make sure you get mountain view. Our Hut was #425. A very very long walk to anything and worth every step. We never called the golf cart because how hard can it be to walk in paradise. Everyone greets you everywhere you go. We got spoiled with wine, champagne, deserts, fruits for our anniversary. I got in trouble for attempting to carry my bags. We got the breakfast included package - varied, fresh, local, with American touches. The Spa has Jacuzzis and Steam rooms on both men and women side but they are outside and can be shared by couples. The fitness center was adequately equipped for vacay Crossfit Workout. We used the shuttle day and night. They are Prompt!!! The in room service is fast and delicious. Snorkeling in the resort lagoon is exotic and fun. The tour we took : shark and sting rays - WOW. I am afraid of my own shadow in the water and despite all my fears it was fun and not remotely scary. The most pampered and personal experience we have had on our travels ( we are seasoned international travelers). One word of caution: this is not a party spot, this is for those looking for a luxurious and serene experience. Bring a jacket and long pants just in case for cooler nights.

Our final stop on our whirlwind 2 week Tahiti getaway and right off the bat we knew we were in for a first class stay when we were greeted at Bora Bora airport and whisked away in a private boat to the resort. The first thing you realize is the enormity of the property. We stayed in overwater bungalow #325 and it must have been a mile and a half from the main lobby / restaurant areas. Which isn't a bad walk if you're doing it early in the day or after sunset, but we found ourselves calling for the golf cart shuttle more often than not. Our bungalow was immaculate. By far the best accommodations of the resorts we stayed in. Strong wifi, good water pressure, and reliable air conditioning. The layout of the bungalow was smart. It seemed there were electrical outlets in all the right places, the light switches made sense, the night lighting under the bathroom cabinets was a nice touch. We spent a lot of time in the bungalow and didn't feel cooped in once. As part of our arrangements through Tahiti Legends we enjoyed complimentary daily breakfast for two and the buffet offered anything and everything. We especially enjoyed the fresh banana juice and pineapple juice. By the second day all the waitresses knew us by name. Nice touch! We took advantage of the free daily boat shuttle to Vaitape (downtown Bora Bora) which leaves the Four Seasons at 11:15am and returns at 2:45pm. We ate lunch, shopped for pearls, did a bit of sightseeing and picked up a few groceries to keep in the mini bar back at the bungalow. Housekeeping was more than happy to empty it for us for just this purpose. Speaking of housekeeping after the first night's sleep I was unhappy with the king mattress, and after letting the front desk know it wasn't long before a crew was at our door to replace it. The boat shuttle also leaves for Vaitape each evening at 6:45p but that one is NOT free. It's $17 per person one way. So for us that totaled $68 each time we went to town. Monday night was Villa Mahana for a five course Epicurean experience. Wednesday night was Bloody Mary's, the famous tourist spot, and Thursday night was Maikai, the place most locals favor as their bar / restaurant of preference. Also it goes without saying the food and beverages are very expensive everywhere you go in Bora Bora. Back at the Four Seasons we had drinks at the sunset bar one night and my Banana Colada was $25, and my wife's virgin Pina Colada was $20. But the view was priceless! All around the resort were constantly amazed at the attention to detail. The grounds were immaculate, the beaches swept and the amenities top notch. One thing we especially enjoyed at the Four Seasons were the towels. Towels everywhere! No need keep track of towel cards, take as many as you wish! If you were going to the pool there are towels waiting for you there. Going to the snorkel beach, towels under every cabana and so on. Also the minute you sit by the swimming pool or the beach a waiter arrives with fresh glasses of ice water at no charge. Nice! As for the activities the Four Seasons offers paddle boarding in a private lagoon for beginners and along the beach for those willing to deal with the current. Snorkel masks and breathers are in a box on the patio of your bungalow but if you require assistance the kind staff at the activities hut were always willing to help. My wife loves to snorkel and feed the fish and the Four Seasons has it's own private snorkel lagoon where the fish are conditioned to come right up to you and eat bread. While the lagoon is natural (not man-made) we were a bit disappointed to discover that man-made barriers had been placed to keep certain fish in the snorkel area and at the same time keep other fish out. We can understand why they do this, but it almost becomes more of a preserve rather than open water snorkeling where anything can swim by. The best day trip we had was the Aqua Bike Adventure. An underwater motorized vehicle built for two that you can breathe in. It drops about 12 feet down and you are guided by a scuba diver who feeds fish in front of your submarine scooter. We brought our GoPro camera and got some amazing underwater footage. The tour also included some brief snorkeling and as we returned to Vaitape our tour guide was very informative about the island, Mount Otemanu and other landmarks. If we had one regret while staying in Bora Bora it was choosing the Circle Island Tour by Jet Ski rather than swim with sharks and rays. The Jet Ski tour felt more like a race as we were basically on full throttle around the island over rough water. Many couples we met back at the resort showed us pictures of swimming with the sharks and rays... and if we had it to do again we would have done that instead. We had a 75 euro Spa credit at the Four Seasons and my wife used that towards a foot massage. The Spa has a relaxation room prior to entering your massage room, and they offered various teas and other items to soothe your senses. The Four Seasons was the most "Americanized" resort of the three we visited during our 2 week stay. Many creature comforts. Strong wifi, plenty of english language TV channels, full menu of comfort foods like burgers and pizza. It was a welcomed difference to the more European, back to basics, Gilligan's Island vibe we felt in places like Taha'a or Moorea. It really just depends on what it is you're looking for. Hands down the Four Seasons made us feel the most luxurious and well taken care of. If you enjoy roughing it, or being one with nature then somewhere else might be better. Finally we can't say enough about the staff - so friendly, always smiling, always greeting us with "Ia Orana" and thanking us with "Mauruuru" they learned our name after one day and greeted us every day with our surnames. The day we departed our airport boat shuttle seemed a bit overcrowded - 8 couples (16 people) plus luggage. The boat took on water from the floor and wound up soaking the bottom of our carry on bags. This caused major stress during our trip home. I won't go into all the details but upon returning home I notified the Four Seasons and received a call back that same day from Ewe Mozejko with customer service, who genuinely seemed empathetic with our situation and wasted no time reimbursing us the cost to replace damaged items - PLUS she also credited our card for ALL of the boat transfers incurred during our entire stay. This was the right thing to do and a smart customer service move to insure our trip had a happy ending.

Room Tip: be aware that rooms farthest out on the pontoons are a good mile + away from the main resort areas a...

There are no words for how amazing it was to visit Bora Bora and stay at the Four Seasons. When friends ask I simply say, "It was life changing." This is a MUST visit destination if you have the time and the means.

Rooms: We were in room 423, an overwater bungalow with a mountain view. It was very spacious and included a sitting area, large bathroom and connected bedroom. There's a deck that spans the entire backside of the bungalow with a dining table and 2 chaise lounge chairs. You can jump right off the deck into the water and get back up with a provided ladder. The best feature of the room is that you can open up the entire backside of the bungalow that faces the water. There are privacy screens on both sides of the deck. You can take a bath in your large soaking tub and feel like you are outside enjoying the view of Otemanu (the mountain).

Our room was one of the furthest away from the main hotel area. This didn't bother us because we enjoyed the walk, and there were often golf carts running that we could jump on if we wanted a ride. However, if you're not into walking make sure you ask for a room close to the lobby/restaurants.

Also, if you're trying to decide if you want to spring for a room with the private plunge pool, we were told by people with these rooms that it was not worth the cost. The plunge pool isn't very private and is also rather cold.

Food: The food was very good. There are several different restaurants to choose from. The breakfast buffet was probably one of the best features, with plenty of different selections, including local cuisine. We ventured away from the hotel for food plenty of times and found the food at the Four Seasons to be the best of what we experienced. However, overall we didn't find the food anywhere on the island to be outstanding. You're probably not going to Bora Bora for the food though.

Service: The service was top notch, which is what you would expect from the Four Seasons. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Beach service was great.

Entertainment: We went during the month of Heiva (the islands' annual dance festival). So the hotel didn't have the local dance that they usually do with some dinners. There's not a ton of other on site entertainment. We did the snorkel tour of the hotel lagoon with the marine biologist (highly recommended).

We booked a snorkel tour through the hotel, which was amazing. You're on a small speed boat with a guide that actually gets in the water with you and guides the group. When we saw other snorkeling tours the guides just stayed in the boat and pointed. So it was really nice to have someone that participated.

We also booked a private jetski tour around the island with an included lunch. This was fun, but the water was pretty rough in some areas, particularly over the crater. It can be a bit scary. We could have done without the lunch... nothing special, but it was a nice touch.

Tips:
- Figure out what you want to do early (snorkeling, etc.) because the time will go quicker than you think!
- If you're there in July try to get a ticket to the Heiva festival. They sell out fast.
- Bloody Mary's, the "must visit" restaurant on the island, was not very impressive.
- Make sure to ask for a room close to the lobby if you don't want to do a ton of walking.
- Wake up early to enjoy a leisurely breakfast before the rush and secure lounge chairs by the beach. They go quickly!
- Make sure to do some stargazing at night. The location is so remote you will see more stars than you thought possible. You can even see the Milky Way very clearly.
- You absolutely MUST snorkel or scuba. This is one of the best destinations in the world for these activities.

Room Tip: Mountain facing rooms are the best. Ask for something close to the lobby if you don't or can...
